I found this piece of info that could help you advance:
42. A piano turner hears one beat every 2.0s when trying to adjust two strings, one of which is sounding 440Hz, so that they sound the same tone. How far off in frequency is the other string?
If the beat period is 2.0 s, then the beat frequency is .50 Hz (f = 1/T)
We know that the beat frequency is just the difference in the two frequencies. So the other frequency is either 439.5 or 440 .5 Hz
Simple harmonic motion can serve as a mathematical model of a variety of motions, such as the oscillation of a spring. Additionally, other phenomena can be approximated by simple harmonic motion, including the motion of a simple pendulum and molecular vibration.
Simple harmonic motion provides the basis of the characterization of more complicated motions through the techniques of Fourier analysis.
I think as long as we have a can that we can tune to 60 hz in USA we will be okay. Mr. "C" found that the .5 liter cans in Europe worked well for him when he was tuning them to 50 hz. The tall cans over there just happened to be right on target with the length he needed to tune his can to 50 hz. The diameter of his can just happened to be 65mm.
Jason has shown us that cans with different diameters such as the Red Bull can can also be tuned. He's shown that the tuning is in the height of the can primarily.
I'm thinking that we need to get a can that will give us the 200mm length specified by Mr. "C". If the diameter is a little different take or leave a few mm then it will probably effect the height of the can too.
I think we are going to have positive results with this project even if we are unable to acquire the European 500ml cans. I think the 500ml cans will be to short for us to tune to 60 hz anyway.

Thanks to our wonderful Professor we have exact dimensions. Yes there are some variables ,however they are very small compared to the other devices that some are attempting a replication of ,devices that require the perfect tuning of a complete Orchestra ?
I get the impression that the effect happens between the ring [valve]
and the can ,with the inclosure having little to do with this!
The thing we are lacking so far here in the USA is THE STUPID CAN!!
To procede with a replication without the proper pieces.......

If it becomes necessary to go to 50hz to do this as a European spec
Than that is what I will do.
Container??
Yes, the container is pvc plastic sewer pipe. Also, it doesn't matter whether the container is vertical or horizontal. My test apparatus/container was just for show. That's why I used clear acrylic with an open end. That's why I had mine standing vertical so that people could see the activity at the ring and can and also show what was going on with respect to the whole side of the can.
Arcing & Sparking?? (Previous Question)
I saw no arcing or sparks while operating my test boiler either. There was a lot of activity between the ring and the can though. The water was swirling and bubbling and very active indeed.

I have a doubt if we can replicate this device without detailed information from Mr "C". Is he willing to say what kind of material is container composed of ? I saw that your tried with clear plastic tube container and with can in standing position. Schematic suggest that can should be in horizontal position. That all need to be asked and cleared up by Mr "C". Without his help this is pointless.

Can you post again link to your ring mounting method picture ? I can't find it.
Also , there is important question which if I good remember was not asked : what is the original material and shape of container and if it has any sound properties ? PVC tube is cheap and nice for experimental device but if the container should ring too or reflect sound waves then only good metal chamber can be resonant cavity.
I'm asking because I use SS pot as a container and I found it acts like a big bell when hit by anything stiff.

I haven't forgot or gave up, just haven't had time. Won't be home until late again tonight. Probably won't work on it again till Friday. I did find a site called stereo test sounds that have more choices of freq. Like 1 Hz.steps, so I will be trying to nail down more precisely where my can is ringing. Chet the clostest can I could find was 20 oz red bull. I've got it cut down to just under 7 1/4" and nail will vibrate at 60 Hz., but I think I can get it closer and get more vibration.
