    Nice work on the drawing, that must have taken a little time to do.
    While your making your corrections, there is one more slight change.
    The star motor as you call it has ten coils, five are slightly off from the
    other five. If I had to guess I would say about 2.5 degrees, but John
    would know more percisely. The magnets stay like they are. At least that
    is the way I saw it to be.

    I got just the wheel 2 or 3 years ago. As I remember it was around $50 with shipping.

    Here's another option for a 44 inch wood wheel, just need to remove the steel outer tire, or maybe it could be ordered for less with out it.

    I like your setup.What is the diameter of that wheel. It made me think that maybe the wheel from a automatic washing machine could work.

    UPDATE:- 13-01-11.
    THE INFORMATION ON THE ATTACHED DRAWING IS COMPLETELY WRONG, AFTER A LITTLE MORE TIME ON THIS FORUM AND FURTHER STUDY I KNOW FOR A FACT THIS DRAWING I ORIGINALLY POSTED IS COMPLETELY WRONG.
    I GOT A BIT TO EXCITED AND POSTED IT A BIT TOO EARLY, I SHOULD HAVE WAITED UNTIL I UNDERSTOOD THE MACHINE A BIT BETTER.
    EDITED ON THE 13-01-11.

    Ok it running, now move the rotor to 1/2 the pole piece and adjust the timing and it will self start. First it will go backwards then it will start.

    Update on 3 pole kit. Now has hall switch. Still need to take readings on everything before next step. Does not self start yet. But I think I know why and will reconfigure it after I take some readings. Then will install cap. Starting to understand johns big wheel a little.     this is the part 3 of my home work on the understanding

    i tried about all what i have to disposal on this circuit

    I was very surprised ,that the MO (microwave oven ) fan motor coil with about 200 Ohm resistance and on the scope produces really strong kick back spikes,(more than 200 volts) could not light the Led ramp
    , as i can easily do with the much lower ohmage PMH coils

    OK something to think about

    I am hoping to try this thing either later today or tomorrow, but I had an idea it might be worth testing.
    You may wanna see what happens when you close that magnetic loop and make PMH out of the coil. Add the plate across the coil

    See if the current draw doesn't go down. You should technically get the same effect out of it, but the magnetic current may hold in the iron. Then all you would need is some real little pulses to change the direction of the existing currents.

    I just thought I would put it out, being its an easy test and all.
