Try you spark gap with magnet wire........so magnet wire from the negative of the battery and magnet wire from the circuit.........insulation touching insulation or there abouts...

You guys seem to have trailed off into all sorts of interesting avenues, but I thought some of you might find this interesting. I was playing around with my ignition coils and a PWM I build the other day. I was using the PWM to pulse an LC circuit with the primary of the ignition coil being the inductor. As you all know the secondary is directly connected to the primary, which isnt exactly the ideal setup. With a little tinkering I was able to maintain a constant stream, or discharge across two metal plates about 15mm apart for about 350ma input. The PWM allows control over duty cycle and frequency, and its interesting to see the changes to the electrical arc when frequency is raised, changes in sound and appearance. This lights up the modified CFL just fine, and will also fill a HV low uF cap quite quickly as you all know.
In an attempt to try something different I replaced the ignition coil with a MOT (microwave oven transformer). The primary has a low inductance, whereas the secondary has significantly more turns, and significantly more inductance, somewhere in the 15H range from memory! AC reffered to inductance in another thread as being similar to inertia....hmm.
Anyway, interestingly enough pulsing the primary of the MOT would not produce enough potential on the secondary for it to jump the gap, like the ignition coil would. No matter how close the gap was I didnt get a spark, this was @ 12v input. But low and behold, the light works great when connected to the secondary despite it being of much lower voltage output than the ignition coil.
It was an interesting experiment, and for those that cant get their hands on the Ignition coil perhaps a MOT will provide some results.

No charging battery on the transmission end and the X charge battery diode is connected to the receiver sphere the light on the neon gets brighter so i play around with the tuning and get very close to resonance.

What would the possibility be to use similar kind of setup - small coil on scope probe - to measure Radiant energy? Something we can look into.
Definately will be usefull for transmited energy. Such coil with variable resistor? Oh why is my lab so far!

Inquorate - I am on the travel at present. Will post the circuit when I get back to my lab next week. It is a standard circuit; NE555, TiP32C, 2N3055, 3x resistors and 3x Caps.
BUT I did smoke many parts. Strange things these electronics; seems they all work on smoke. We should look more into the smoke phenomena. I noticed every time the smoke comes out, such item stops working. Got kind of strange aroma too.

When you hit resonance did it go quiet?
I have a feeling that it not the two spheres in resonance(going back and forth to each other)But the two spheres working together as one going back and forth with the ground.
Like two Strings it tune!!

An afterthought..
I have made ignition coil pulse another coil directly (with imhotep fan self oscillating, and picked up charge off end of alligator clip over air thru chipwood of table to cap to neon to ground. Try alternating layers of foil and dielectric on your xmas ball, Ie a cap. Have to do same with transmitting ball too, cause of resonance? And I've always wondered what tesla meant by making receiving circuit one quarter wavelength?
Ps, is there a way do damp out or cancel back emf on ignition coil, so always producing forward pulses.. Apart from diode, that is.. I think magnetic coil collapse of coil may detract from pulse.
Also, re the vacuum diodes link I posted, if melted tube of glass (ie eyedropper) onto hole filed into glass bulb and used that to vacuum out bulb, and while pump connected then melt eyedropper with blowtorch (creme brule anyone?) and clamp shut - would keep vacuum. Might have to add switch to start tungsten glowing using globe neg to battery. Once stream of electrons flowing to plate, could switch off neg to battery. Enuff from me for a bit.. Great to have ppl to share these wild ideas with. Thanks all.

great video!!! Alfoil on smashing deco. I thought about that but didn't think it'd work.. Try putting needle on transmitting ball, pointing out. I read somewhere that when you do that with tesla coil a thin streamer of gas-like discharge occurs. Then try pointing it at grounded receiving ball and see if amperage goes up. Also, I don't have computer, doing this all with net on phone so resolution not so good, can you post that schematic of 555 timer 2n3055? Tranny to ignition coil as a pic? and try diodes one to ground one back in parallel. I'm stuck at work for two days so will be living vicariously. Also, did you guys happen to take note of position of pots etc when stuff blew? When we make diode and triode vacuum tubes, we might catch the amperage that blows things up and knowing the rough frequencies would help. Much appreciated and keep em coming.

I worked on the wireless transmission of energy experiment today. I don't mention it in the video but it was expensive. In setting it up and trying it out, I hit a certain resonance and blew out a bunch of parts. Most of my day was spent repairing.
I am way behind you guys on this but I will try to catch up.

Natural Frequencies of Strings
A note played on a string has a fundamental frequency, which is its lowest natural frequency. The note also has overtones at consecutive integer multiples of its fundamental frequency. Plucking a string thus excites a number of tones.
Now consider two strings which are plucked simultaneously. The degree of harmony depends on how the respective fundamental frequencies and overtones blend together.
Music notes which blend together in a pleasing manner are called consonances. Notes with a displeasing blend are dissonances.
Helmholtz gave a more mathematical definition of these terms:
When two musical tones are sounded at the same time, their united sound is generally disturbed by the beats of the upper partials, so that a greater or less part of the whole mass of sound is broken up into pulses of tone, and the joint effect is rough. This relation is called Dissonance. But there are certain determinant ratios between pitch numbers, for which this rule suffers an exception, and either no beats at all are formed, or at least only such as have so little intensity that they produce no unpleasant disturbances of the united sound. These exceptional cases are called Consonances.
Octave
Again, a one-octave separation occurs when the higher frequency is twice the lower frequency. The octave ratio is thus 2:1
A note's first overtone is one octave higher than its fundamental frequency.
Consider a modern piano keyboard. The beginning key on the left end is an A0 note with a fundamental frequency of 27.5 Hz. A piano key has harmonic overtones at integer multiples of its fundamental frequency. Thus, the A0 key also produces a tone at 55.0 Hz, which is one octave higher than the fundamental frequency. The second overtone is at 82.5 Hz.
The twelfth key to the right of A0 is A1, counting both the black and white keys. The A1 note has a fundamental frequency of 55.0 Hz. The A1 note is thus one octave higher than the A0 note, in terms of their respective fundamental frequencies. In fact, there is a one-octave separation between any two piano keys which are twelve keys apart.
A pleasing, harmonious sound is produced when two notes separated by one octave are played simultaneously on a piano or other musical instrument. Helmholtz calls such a pair an absolute consonance. Thus, the A0 and A1 keys are an absolute consonance.
So when we get the best output we are that earth frequency.this can be repeat up ther octaves, The coil has a resonance frequency its likes so the coil will drop off if too far from the coil natural state.
