There are components to the magnetic field that were previously not included.
Because the terminology refers to only the previous components we cannot go forward.
By the time everyone agrees that the composite field should include these other parts the sub atomic
comportments will be observed sufficiently and the magnetic field model will again need further modification.

It is normal to have a preference to certain names given to these components.
In a forum like this we should use the best definitions and the simplest of names.
( my opinion a disk and bubbles works fors me ) while this gets us to a little
higher concept level of understanding we cannot escape the fanciful language.

On the other hand consider a mathematician having to use the term bubble as the
officially declared variable that also would be an imposition. Like unification theory it is an endless occupation.

The in your face method of presenting concept does not work for me personally.
Honestly when this topic arrived again I said to myself "Oh look what we have here."
Appreciating the history of Bloch and Neel wall for some time I feel the story should be told more
smoothly less defensively even though there is credit for ferro viewing technology the drama distracts from the progress.
I rarely refer to Ken Wheeler's pdf maybe even avoid it because of the in your face drama. Sorry need a better approach.

Arguments about Two Completely Different things...

    Hello to All,

About your arguments (Markoul and Bistander)...sorry to say that you are MIXING TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PHENOMENA in ALL your above comments...

And please do not take it the wrong way, Many of Us have done it before or are still confused on this subject, since it has not been taught properly up to now.

There are TWO DIFFERENT EFFECT MANIFESTING IN MAGNETISM, and I will put it first in very general terms:

    1- MATERIAL (MASS) EFFECT.

2-NON MATERIAL EFFECT (VIRTUAL, MASSLESS AND SPATIAL)

EXPLAINING #1- On the MASS of ALL Ferromagnetic Materials there is an Effect manifested as you guys have described and shown above, relating to the microscopic world, as are the molecular and atomic magnetic domains and domain walls, whenever these materials are under the effect of MAGNETISM, whether TEMPORARY (Electromagnets) or PERMANENT (Magnets).

As have been shown for years, a piece of iron "ALIGNS" according to the INFLUENCING Field directions, and yes, in this alignment, Bistander is correct, there are absolutely no "center" differences at all, meaning ALL Microscopic Particles within the MASS of the Ferromagnetic Material show DIRECTIONAL ALIGNMENTS, which does NOT have any particular change or difference in their gravitational center.

And as it has also been written before...there are certain ferromagnetic alloys who have all kind of different REACTING PROPERTIES related to the effected Magnetic Field.

Some materials have the capability to retain the Field exposure even if it is for a short period of time (Hysteresis, memory or retention)...As other ferromagnetic materials return "automatically" to previous alignments (or miss alignments) after Field is over, collapsed or REVERSED, etc, etc.

EXPLAINING #2- This part is the harder to "digest" or understand for most of "materialistic" people studying Magnetism...and simply it is due that it is not possible to see any magnetic fields at plain sight...nor to touch it with our fingers...reason why I call it SPATIAL-VIRTUAL-STATE.

And here please allow me to make a clarification about Iron Filings Method.

Iron Filings are Ferromagnetic Particles with DEFINED MASS AND WEIGHT, therefore, no matter how little or how many particles we sprinkle over a magnetic field, all these particles WILL ALIGN EXACTLY AS ALL MAGNETIC DOMAINS WITHIN THE MAGNETIC CORE MASS portraying the Magnetic Field.

All sprinkled iron filings over the Magnetic Field will become MAGNETIZED, PLUS ALIGNED, according to the Field Direction and volume geometries ON THE MASS FIELD CARRIER...AND AS SUCH, it WILL NOT SHOW ANY CENTER DISTORTIONS.

    In even more simple words...

IRON FILINGS WILL EXACTLY MIRROR, MIMIC, THE MASS MOLECULAR ALIGNMENTS WITHIN FERROMAGNETIC CORE CARRYING THE FIELD.

As Markoul wrote...exactly reaction as that of a Compass Needle.

NOW, the VIRTUAL FIELD, emanated in SPACE, GRAVITATING around the ferromagnetic core SPACE, which has NO MASS, NO WEIGHT, HENCE IT IS INVISIBLE to plain sight...have properties which are the ones mentioned and shown in ALL EXPERIMENTS DONE WITH LIGHT, ELECTRON BEAMS AND EVEN FERROMAGNETIC PARTICLES, BUT, sustained in a COLLOIDAL STATE, allowing LIGHT TO PASS BY THEM, As to be set at a further distance from FIELD DIRECT INFLUENCE, where it can show these SPATIAL PROPERTIES to Human Sight.

And it is about this SPATIAL FIELD that We (Ken Wheeler and I) refer to, as having a CENTER PLANE (COUNTERSPACE, DIELECTRIC, etc, etc), PLUS MANIFESTING PARTIAL SPINS in a ONE WAY DIRECTION FORCE FOR BOTH POLARIZATIONS (POLES).

Hope this post Mainly, RECONCILES all arguments, plus clears some doubts which refer to two different phenomena, even though both are dependents upon each others...

    Kind Regards to all.

    yeeeees!!...thanks for the info.

However, what this all has to do with the domain wall field discussion of a magnet? really escapes me?

We are NOT talking here about magnetic domains (metal chunks inside the magnet) but the field domain Bloch wall of a magnet which is one in number and in the middle of the magnet.

you are deluded in this one...

What? A magnet or piece of ferromagnetic material (like steel) will have thousands of domains and therefore thousands of domain walls. And there is nothing particular interesting about the midpoint of a magnet.

Nice photo. Shows much better than your video that the two magnets align pole-wise, opposite attracting. While the metal washers align to minimize reluctance between magnet poles, like I said. Really nothing due to anything happening with the middle of the magnets.

Sorry but i have to disagree with you, magnetism is not the same as ferromagnetism.

Magnets when put side by side get attracted and align themselves in parallel with each other (with the opposite poles of course as you correctly pointed out).

Whereas ferromagnetic materials put aside a magnet since they always point out towards the N-S poles direction of a magnet like a compass are always aligning vertically to the midpoint axis (Bloch) of a magnet.

That is why iron fillings fail to show the lowest potential flux passing through the Bloch region axis of a magnet and give the incomplete and therefore false macroscopic imprint of the field of the magnet. This is also inescapable proof that iron fillings are not really showing magnetic flux (trajectories or paths of movement) but more lines of force and magnetic potential and only these towards the highest potentials of a magnetic field namely the two poles of a magnet.

(important clarification: force line vectors in magnetic fields are always depicted as straight directional arrows or vectors whereas magnetic flux lines can be any type of curved line or other line shape indicating path of travel of an magnetic object under the influence of a magnetic field force vector. Force vectors on a magnetic field are always tangent to the flux lines at any point)

But if you still insist and believe that iron fillings are showing correctly magnetic flux of a magnet then you must also accept what iron fillings is telling you thus magnets don't have domain walls, which is utterly wrong of course.

In a nutshell iron fillings is a macroscopic depiction of the magnetic highest potential of the field of a magnet whereas ferrocell as a modern nanomagnetic device it is operating more at the quantum level than the macroscopic, can depict the quantum image of the field of a magnet.

    That's all there is.

    Kind Regards,

Below: 2x2x1” block neodymium, sitting on top is a disk magnet, on the side is a steel disk, sitting perpendicular to the
dielectric inertial plane (Bloch Wall), bottom is a steel ring with a knife-thin edge also sitting perpendicular to the dielectric inertial plane.
Middle picture is same but with the ring on the side. On the far right, a different angle of the middle picture. The dielectric
inertial plane is marked with a green line.

    You refer to this, right?
That which you show has nothing to do with the mid region of the magnet(s). The two ring magnets attract each other in the shown orientation due to the North and South poles of one attracting the South and North poles of the other, respectively.

And the orientation of the the steel washer on the ring magnet is caused by the force to minimize the reluctance of the path between the poles of the magnet.

    Look,

    let's put it this way.

You can't show really the complex magnetic field geometry even at 2D of a magnet with something that aligns always parallel to the poles N-S direction.

Unless you believe that field of a magnet is just a bunch of straight or slightly curved lines, you need something that can also align as well, with the vertical component of the force vectors in a magnetic field to show correctly the total flux of the field.

And that is exactly what the Fe3O4 magnetite single magnetic domain nanoparticles inside the ferrofluid in the ferocell are doing. Since they are superparamagnetic (google it) single domain they can align perfectly with the magnetic flux of a magnet at any direction and strength therefore showing it at its full, even the magnetic flux passing through the Bloch axis of a magnet which is impossible (as i shown experimentally) for the iron fillings to enter there and therefore can not depict it.

Iron fillings are strongly ferromagnetic an are always attracted at the direction where the strongest magnetic potential is located in space.
They act more like a compass. So its the other way around really iron fillings
are not really showing the flux but more where the poles are located thus the regions with the most potential. Also you will notice if you springle too many iron fillings, because their strong ferromagnetism they attract each other and totally fail to show any field.

iron filings experiments shows flux lines of a magnetic field,

ferrocell only show the north and south, not really the magnetic field, but you can grasp a visual of it..
the white line (clear line) shows the area where the Iron compound was evacuated and the darker area shows where it was compressed, attracted by the poles of the magnet..

I have had my fair share of the Iron filings experiment and to me it is not BS as you state.

you can't be serious that is just the term grandpa maxwell used to describe the sum of magnetic lines in a field (vector potential meaning number of lines or sum). It is just a precursor for B thus the magnetic flux!!

p.s. this is not Zero it is the Greek letter Θ , first letter of the ΘΕΟΣ meaning GOD...HE left his signature?... and if you go now in his side there no more arrows about this nonsense high potential 1km away lines of a magnet! Θ is the only field there is... wake up people... too much Ken Weeler

    Hi,

I mean the same thing as the author on the ferrocell website you linked (which is the developer and source of the product) when he wrote:
"The 'lines' on either side of the null indicate magnetic vector potential. (Not field lines like iron filings show)".
As you can see by what he enclosed in parentheses that he believes iron fillings show the field lines. Magnetic vector potential is a scientific term well defined physically and mathematically. Maxwell did quite a bit with it. A decent summary at:
