    What is the exact schematic of what your whole system is now? Is the one in Ash's doc the most recent?

    If a regular ignition works with the plasma plugs that simplifies things. But maybe there is a point to where some added capacitors will boost the effect. And if it does, none of the cdi stuff is necessary and just a cap in parallel to the plugs are all that are needed...if they do add anything.

    Greg, that sounds amazing. I wonder why Krupa would have needed to use a souped up crane cam ignition for?

    There are probably plenty of people that will never have these plugs if they don't make them on their own because the Firestorm's were supposed to be available every single year for the last so many years and they're still not available...so the plasma circuit is still pretty valuable for them.

    Yes, I hope too, but do NOT believe it!


    I'm discharging a 16uF cap at 400VDC through only two diode strings per cylinder. (Not three diodes parallel, like gmeast). But each string consists of two NTE517 and 10 Ohm resistor (cement) in row.

    I had too much problems with diodes cant resist the HV priorly!

    No warming of diodes at all now!


    Waiting for a set of ball plugs.................

    Yes ... just an inductive ignition. At atmospheric it requires a plasma circuit (like the VexUs or a CDI) but not at pressure. I will make a video of a new Krupa0.090 nickel plug in the pressure fixture showing all modes ... it was unexpected !

    Hi Kinetix,

    The new coil now in the Bug is the coil I have always used in the bench tests. The HV diode in that setup only got hot from the current but never failed. Once I upped the voltage at the CDI cap and dropped the cap to 1 uF - 4 uF it cooled off. We will see what happens. But my plasma circuit might be obsolete now by the looks of the new plugs' plasma.

    I had re-jetted from 'real lean' back to 'stock', but my weak coil discovery prompted me to revisit the leaner jet. I put the leaner jet in this afternoon and it ran very strong.

    How about pure silver as the spark plug ground rod material?? I mean many people use silver coated copper rods as spark gaps. That much silver shouldn't cost too much.

    Ash? Did you modify the doc before posting on your website or is it a different one altogether?

    I saw a lot of your comments on the materials but is there a consensus as to what is the ultimate material to use?

    Hi everyone,

    I received my new set of Firestorm replicas from Robin. They are beautiful .. you've already seen one of them posted here.

    The first thing I did was a pressure test. It would barely fire either on regular spark of VexUs. The gap is much greater .090 Krupa gap. The Bug would not run. Robin said he's running the same nickel plug/gap so I started to suspect my Bug's old coil. I switched it out with a new one and ... tah dah !

    Under the pressure test these plugs Kick A. But, and I don't know if I should feel disappointed or not, they produce what appears to be the same plasma spark with or without the VexUs plasma circuit "on". At atmospheric there is a difference though ... but that doesn't count.

    I decided to test this with a dead (it would come on weakly for about 5 seconds and then shut off and both ends look burned out) FL bulb. It lights up very brightly.     Without a spark gap, it is actually brighter WITHOUT the diode. If I put the CF in serial with the spark gap then it is brighter with the effect. (I still cannot get the effect with a 1uF oil cap). I would guess that my circuit is right if adding the diode makes a huge difference in the sound, light, and volume of the spark.

    Another interesting observation, I have a baby rocker that plays music that just "randomly" starts up when I start making sparks. It is a good 8' away. It has a mechanical switch that ends up moved half way between "off" and "loop". I don't know what the heck is going on with that! I have to physically move it back to off to stop the music.

    @Xack, i would believe that, Bob Boyce apparently got 100MPG with his Prius (photo of it here)

    But that was only by having to use his 101 plate cell.

    The prius is light enough for a 100% electric motor, in my option you would strip the hybrid out, keep the regenerative breaking tho
