You're stator looks great, but then again I've never gotten any of mine working right, I think they've all shorted somewhere. If you're getting lower resistance then you think you should, then all the better!
.
Also, I just recently got my 273-0238 fan.
Before I try it, does anyone know if I could damage it if I tried powering it with a camera flash capacitor?

1.5 Ohms????
I've pulled a fan apart and rewrapped the stator, cw-ccw-cw-ccw, single strands, 2 wires in total. When I test the ohms of the first windings get only 1.5 ohms. I tested the other and get the same result. Not sure what to think here. Each post is wound 50 times and I am using 30 gage wire. I was able to strip the wire with a wire wrap tool. I have 3 pics for you to look at:
Stator.jpg is the stator windings
Clips.jpg are the alligator clips attached to the wire I am testing. Meter reading is the same regardless of clips.
meter.jpg is the meter reading. You can also see what I have the meter set to for confirmation.
Any suggestions? This is my second winding attempt. The first was 40 turns of 28 gage I believe.
My understanding is that there is supposed to be a much higher resistance (40+ ohms) from what I've read here. Is this a typical measurement?

if you look further back in the thread you will see a picture of the large fan circuit on the package.the common pole is the third post on the stator that has 2 wires soldered on it(if you look at the actual fan stator) ,the other two posts have 1 wire and that is where you can get the pulse off the windings with no modification (just solder a wire on either one of those posts that have 1 wire and hook charge diode's anode to the new wire and hook the cathode to the charge batteries positive and hook the charge batteries negative to the source supply positive and you are good to go.i will be posting a simple schematic soon.Originally posted by Dingus View PostI'm sorry, I probably should have been a bit more specific. if you need a schematic you can expand the picture of the package further back in the thread on a basic circuit for the large radio shack fan .all fan circuits are not the same, so it will not apply on all fans ,but the unmodified version just uses the coil post off the non common pole and hooks a diode off the trace to get some pulsing (it has a very little charge ability ,but you do not need to do a full mod and it still self starts (not a true bedini).but it does slowly energize a battery.

Ok, so my last fan does virtually nothing. continuity read fine, generated nothing when spun. I'll try the unmodified version with the larger, expensive fan, but i'd really prefer to have a visible schematic first.
Also, i've been wondering if there is, or if anyone might know of a way of using the circuit it's self as a power source rather then needing to use it to charge a battery to use as a power supply. Or some means of switching between two or more batteries, while one is charging, the other is in use, then when it runs low, they switch?

Ah ok.
Well, I guess I'll start with that, and experiment with other windings after.
And I know what you are saying with the windings.
I have a 3" fan that I started messing with before I got the 5" fan kit.
The patience needed for a 3" is just about more than I can muster.. lol

I don't know if anyone has done a direct comparison of stock single wind vs bifilar.
I would make the fan work as is, and only rewind if you are unhappy with the results or you can't get it working, as winding those little stators is quite a pain.

I managed to get the 2 transistor circuit going on a computer fan (original tape motor circuit with the opposing coils tapped for recovery).
The schematic was included in an early post but that link seems to have gone missing.
It seems to working well so far.
I haven't tuned it yet but it is charging nicely.

Doh!
After watching the video for the kajillionth time I see that the coils are NOT opposed! What a jerk I am!
I'm just going to have to go a bit slower and triple check the triple checks.

Can be found at radio shack
Catalog number 273-0238
This fan has gigantic coils! and stator! Large and easy to get apart. Grip the stator gently start twisting continue until the assembly comes off. they use a rubbery black glue. It all comes apart really easy. Has great spikes extremely large. Extremely large assembly no more tiny wires or tiny stators. Its made of cast alum frame. Extremely well built. Lots of air output. Quite expensive, it cost about 19.99 at radio shack. But if you want one that is really easy to do this is the one to get, and it will last forever. They even include the schematic for the original circuit on the back of the carton, For anybody who wants to study the original circuits. I have powered it from 6 volts to 38 volts. At 38 volts the spikes were wild, through the roof. It will probably de-sulfate very quickly at that voltage. I will be using this one in my combination Imhotep IROL fan emergency combination. Which I will be revealing shortly.
