    ok i have 1ohm on the + and on the casing and 1ohm on the pot and neon

    there was 1 in series with 1 of the neon leads.
    i thought it was there because we run on 220v or something

    Neon goes between emitter and collector and suppose to short high voltage, preventing transistor.     So there is no reaction from the fan when you short the base and collector? if so then sounds like the transistor may be fried... Strange since you are using a neon

    But it will jump if you short the collector and emitter, right?

    i was just getting exited, looked as if it wanted 2 spin and all that was needed, was 2 set the pot or some thing. but now u tell me about the short thing, there is no jump :-(

    the most common problem is a fried transistor. try briefly shorting the collector (the transistor casing) and the base (the pole with the potentiometer) together. If the transistor is still good, then it should repel the magnets and make the fan blades jump.

    i wish i can say, i did. but i did not take 2 much notice when i took it apart. but i do beleve it would have been like that @ some time (i tryed all options but the best i got out of it, was it rocked from side to side) i will have to try it again as u have it there.
