    Dear researchers.

    I start worried about one thing. All what I see- in last times is very close to STANDARD CDI IGNITION CIRCUIT Here is the schematic. If you look at circuit you’ll see auto generator with secondary voltage about 400V then bridge rectifier and than T112-16-10 and then after C2 is output to ignition coil. Only difference is- this 400V impulse is going in to the primary of ignition coil. Dear friends! Please make Your MPG tests! If there is NO GAIN, then your job goes to nonsense.

    Air Gap

    Hi all,

    A member from Overunity.com pointed out the need for a diode at the HV output of the coil to prevent coil heating and partial coil voltage negation caused by the reverse voltage of the VexUs circuit. This make it much like the Tero circuit. This was a very good observation on Zis's part. This IS required for HV on the bench where you have the coil hooked up directly - full time. However, in a real application, the coil is never, ever connected to the circuit because of the air gap provided by the distributor. By placing an air gap at the HV output of the coil, this can be simulated on the bench. The spark is greatly enhanced. For coil packs you'll need an actual air gap or diode. I prefer the air gap because I don't want ANY resistance in this path. You need to shield the zone against RF leakage though.

    I got the new circuit built, all except the transformer which is supposed to arrive ANY DAY NOW. Next thing we need to invent is a way to have our parts e-mailed to us!!! Below is a pic of the board, awaiting the transformer, and the heat sinks are not on the transistors yet. I am also going to use computer fans in both ends of the project box to make it a wind tunnel.

    Great news! And yes, I now have a high support voltage multiplier that stays between 450 VDC and 385 VDC across the full spectrum from 0-RPM to 4000-RPM (4-cylinder) so I'm also using only 3 uF now and it's a 'crackling' spark. HV and LC ROCKS ! ! ! And of course this allows us to eleiminate the Storage Cap because the multiplier serves the purpose ... as you have discovered.

    Da... I got two lines confused when I edited. I meant to say the varistor across the two black wires going to your multiplier.

    The disk caps were just an after thought after I built a circuit for this last summer and used disposable camera flash caps and got bit a few times. That board could kill an old guy me quite easily.

    But hey, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Nice prototype.

    If the 'cheap' caps are ceramic then they are low capacity. The oscillator would need to run at a very high frequency to keep up with the power demand from the water spark plug circuit. My present combo of CDI Cap and frequency is actually about 36 Watts at the hi freq (high RPM) end of things. A dinky cap circuit would not be able to provide that power throughput at the oscillator's low freq. I'd normally agree with you but this is a 'power' circuit not an audio circuit.

    Hi Got Gas,

    Yep you're seeing right. They only work on a half cycle ... in one direction in this full wave design, so a 250 volt cap is good in a 500 VDC multiplier. The caps you're looking at are 22 uF - 250 VDC. They don't get higher than ambient temperature.

    finished oscillator testing

    Hi all,

    Whew! I've finished the oscillator design and testing as far as I'm going to take it. I need (we all need) to know the potential for the water spark plug technology ... not what's a better inverter design. But since I fathered the Vexus Circuit and it so handily blows up inverters I thought I'd try to at least provide an alternative power supply for it so the REAL testing can resume. The VexUs Circuit has never had stability problems so it seems worth the effort to solve the power issues.

    Below is a picture of the oscillator/inverter. The on-board transformer is rated at 24VA (Watts in this case). The circuit is the exact circuit "High Powered Inverter" I posted earlier. It is a self oscillator. The resistor values are as shown in the picture except for the Caps ... they are 10,000 uF and the thing oscillates at 88 Hz. You can see two cooling fans ... one for the transistors and one for the transformer. At 9:00 is a full wave voltage doubler (actually 2 in parallel for capacity). At 1:30 is a 1,000 uF cap for the 12VDC power in (power supply stuff). At 3:00 is the CDI (dump) Cap @ 5 uF. To its right is the storage cap at 450 uF. Just below that is the ceramic current limiter (resistor) R1 at 510 Ohms.

    I'll be posting some vids shortly of all this installed in the Bug, another look at the new HV spark under pressure and the beginnings of my 'headlong' into a semi-geet water/fuel vaporizer for the Bug ... then down to business.

    Aside ... the voltage multiplier output starts at 445VDC, is at 325 VDC at 2,400 equiv engine RPM and drops somewhat linearly until about 6,000 RPM and then crashes (minimal output). I'm going to hammer on these voltage multipliers to try and understand how to make them support the HV over a broader operational frequency range.
