Greg, not all spark plugs are made so that it is easy to remove the resistor in them. I destroyed a lot of spark plugs by trying to remove the resistor. So I would rather suggest you to try finding ones that already do not have any resistors in them.
Anyway, today I replaced the ITR8102 optrotrigger with a LTH301-46. It seems that everything is working fine now. I tested the generator engine and it runs ok with the custom ignition and the 2:1 reducer. Here is a video:

At this time there is no booster side attached. I just wanted to see how it runs on gasoline and standard timing (about 15 degree before TDC).

I wired up a series string of HV microwave diodes to equal about 60KV instead of the 1N5408 ones as stated by Bill, I guess the amp rate was all wrong.......or something.
As soon as I flipped on the inverter, the sparkplug took off arcing like crazy on it's own! I wasn't even triggering the coil at the time. I could only leave the inverter on for about 5 seconds at a time or it would start squeeling at me. The LAST time I turned on the inverter, I trigered the coil a few times, it did make the spark more intense when it fired. Right up to when the inverter looked like it was about to catch FIRE!!!
hopefully if time permits, I will have the circuit assembled for testing this weekend.
