I guess whatever method you do, you must do your homework. I belong to offgrid groups on yahoo, and alt- fuels and have learned there is much method to how you do this.

    Thanks for your cautions!
theremart, you will find those promoting SWVO also sell kits....and they make lots of greenbacks on it. I am not selling anything here so have no motivation to stir you one way or the other, only can offer you my own experience. ....24

I am open to look at all alternatives, and if someone has had a problem with it, I do open my ears to find out what did or did not work.

I see there to be a cost in the kit, but I also see a cost in the additive you add and the hoops you have to go through for the process. Both seem to cost extra, and both work, from what I have heard.

How long can you store your finished product?

The oil pre bio-diesel...could be stored for years.

The bio-diesel: I have been told that I should consume it within 6 months, I have burned it as fuel up to 1 year after it was made with no problems before I ran out...so don't know past that point but seems to me if the bio-diesel has a little alcohol left in it that would act as a preservative that may extend its life for as long as its present. But that is only based on my best guess as I can not say if it is so for sure or not. All it is once made is pure veggie oil with all trans fatty acids removed, even the fats from the plant itself. The trans-fatty acids is what I believe makes oil go rancid.

Thanks a lot for sharing. There are people that use $1200 biodiesel maker here but only produce 14% useable fuel. I will relay the information to them .

Thanx Suchayo....better yet get them to read it.

fatty oil or lard deep fryer grease will only make small percentages of bio-diesel, this is why I avoid many Chinese restaurants. Most these restaurants use a half lard half creamy veggie oil mix......24

                more pics...

one pic showing how I cut the top out of my used plastic barrels I pick up for free at a local farm co-op.

and a few close ups of the mixer for the bio-diesel....this mixer was the second I made and used the top of a steel barrel for the large round disk the motor was mounted to...it was a little flimsy as it was thin sheet metal unlike the first one that was heavier gage material. And it has surface rust on it as its set outside through winter. I know my bio-diesel equip is not all pretty like you see many people make...its more of a down and dirty "Get er done" style functional units. Used veggie oil and bio-diesel is a messy process and I do not care what the equipment looks like as long as it does what i want it to do and do it fast as possible to get the job done at hand in the least amount of time and labor. I could have made a nice pretty 50 gallon a day processor that cost 20 times as much and does 10 times less, but for what purpose?...so I have a pretty processor to look at?

                here are the pics.

                  7000 volt fast settling wand

I found my 7,000 Volt transformer and stainless steel hand wand for the quick settling out of the glycerin as before stated.

After finding out this could be done with a transformer I rounded up all the components I had on hand and in 20 minutes or less came up with this for my first build, I was in a hurry to try it out as I was excited to find out about this ....so since it worked so well never have refined it as of yet. Maybe this year will get around to that. I have used this unit to make around 2,800 gallons so far in 30 gallon batches using this same device seen.

I mentioned before (from memory which is not always accurate it seems any more) I thought I had used 10-330 ohm resisters twisted together, but seems this has about 5-22kohm 5% 1/4 watt resistors (red red orange gold) In the pics notice only one neon transformer lead is used, other yellow lead goes to one stainless rod and grounded to case and other lead is from the center of one of the Neon transformer wires coming out of the case (HV) and the shielding woven wire around same wire is connected to the resistors and also grounded to other case screw.

I used an old probe and wire from a multi-meter and just stuck the probe between the rod and handle and connected the other end to the center of the only transformer wire used as described above.

This set up seemed to work quite well for doing the job.

Hope this is not too confusing with pics supplied

                  good day!!! 24

Wand and Rods for HV settling of glycerin

I just double checked my wooden handle measurements and they are as follows.

Closet wooden dowel is 12" long and stainless rods are 4 inches apart in photo above.

                      Questions?

If anyone following this thread has any questions about what was posted so far, feel free to do so.

I need to pick up my oil accounts as many of them are full, so it may take me a 2-3 days to do so. I will be picking up a load, filtering it just like described then going out for more loads...so when I say 2-3 days to do so I am speaking of picking it up..may take a week total to also filter it between loads as the weather is still a little cold here making it more difficult to do.

                      Good Day!!!....24

Hi suchayo, I will get there, I have to reweigh the potassium out so I can show what it is equivalent to in dry volume using a liquid oz measuring system. This way someone does not have to have a accurate scale to measure these amounts. They can simply use a 320z (1 quart) plastic measuring container that is marked to get a close dry approximation. I have used this method for years with no problem. Its just that I want to reweigh it and take pics of the dry volume for a visual reference.

Then after discussing the mixing of the Methyl Alcohol with the Potassium Hydroxide I can then go into a step by step putting all the pieces together for you to see the whole process. I am hoping to also do a video and post it up on you-tube for the thread. So just a little more patience and we will get there....24

                              I'm Back

Sorry for the delay here, I pretty much finished all my route for oil pick-up and had to picked up some more disposable plastic measuring containers to take some pictures of the amounts of Potassium Hydroxide needed for proper mixing of the Methyl-hydroxide. Then had a little computer accident which destroyed my wifi card, so had to order another and wait for it to get here. I was lucky it was just the wifi card and not something more serious as the puter would no longer boot. I was not too happy with my misfortune as I just built this computer not but a couple of months ago.

I will get the pics taken as soon as I can and posted so we can continue this thread.

I am also making an e-book using this thread that I thought I might sell on the internet as I find it strange that free information is perceived to be worthless to some folks. If they pay for it on the other hand they think it must be more valuable. I will see how that works out.

                              Good Day!!!

You might also like to know that gas or diesel over here is now-----$1.60---- a ltr!!!! can you believe that ?

                                Regards, Bren.
