Yes, you can tell if a coil is in all of the way by sticking an empty spool in a hole and then judge whether the spacer is half cocked or out further than it should be.

Nickel is hard to grind. To bad a true test was never made. Seems like your gap is 3/16". Dern shame you can't see the gap. Smack it with a baby sludge?
