This symbol is placed over the entrance of a well known banking institution ( HEBREW GEMATRIA: Values from 20 - 29 ), founded in 1765. What I couldn't understand was why a bee hive would be placed over the entrance of a bank. At first I thought it was a way of saying ha, look at you worker bees feeding the privileged few... but they wouldn't do that, so I read up on it and I have to say I'm glad I did, so I thought I would share in case others are interested too.

The bee has been an important symbol to man from the very beginnings of human history, with it's ability to pollinate, the bee has been regarded as mystical and transformative ( or META ) as well as having the ability to regenerate.

A widely forgotten trait of the bee is that it's the only insect that communicates through dance, this is one reason why bee symbology from ancient times is lost on the majority of people.

Hello,

I totally just threw this together. I dont have too much knowledge with electronics but I like to try and figure things out and build my own. Please let me know what you guys think of it....ways to improve it?

Im currently running ableton (which i used to use for DJing) with analog, outputting a square wave with width modulation, rectifying it with a diode and using the signal to switch 2 mpsa06 transistors in parallel. Ive got 12 volts across the transistors which in turn switch 3 irf740a mosfets in parallel. The fets then switch my power supply of 13.8 volts (i need to get some rechargeable batteries) acrpss the motor.

It works great and allows for some interesting types of pulsing.

A team of American bioengineers are trying to create a perfect artificial bee eye, which could revolutionize technology, as it is meant to replace the lenses used in ultra-thin cameras, omni-directional surveillance devices or high-speed motion sensors, informs BBC Online.

As a bee eye has a very complex structure, with over 8,500 hexagonal built-in lenses, each unit being orientated in a slightly different direction, the final image will look like a miniature mosaic.

The scientists from Berkley and University of California say that, by creating an artificial eye, which looks like a dome, they could also discover the way insects create their own eyes, starting with just one cell.

"Even though insects start with just a single cell, they grow and create this beautiful optical system by themselves," said Professor Luke Lee, one of the bioengineers involved in the study.

"I wanted to understand how nature can create layer upon layer of perfectly ordered structures without expensive, fabrication technology," he said.

Insect eyes are, maybe, the most complex miniature structure, as it is made of thousands of minuscule lenses, every one of them guiding the light into a channel containing light-sensitive cells, and only after this long process, the image is produced by optical nerve cells.

The project was financed by Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), United States military research group, as this new discovery could be used in security devices.

In a way, though, it is true that the Tarot came from Egypt (well, the Middle East) - albeit not in form of a sacred and occult wisdom, not as a relict of Egyptian priests but rather as a game of Arab warriors. It were the Mamluks who brought the cards along in the fourteenth century - those legendary Islamic armies in the service of the Ayyoubides or the Caliphat, warriors and cavalry soldiers whose whole life centered around their warcraft. For their entertainment they engaged in archery and combat games, in polo and more laid back pastimes like backgammon, chess and card games.

These playing cards of the Mamluks were called 'Na'ib' and usually contained 52 cards in four suits: swords, cups, coins and polo sticks. Each suit had 10 number cards and three 'Na'ib' cards resembling our court cards known as Malik, Na'ib Malik, and Thani Na'ib (King, Viceroy, Deputy or Second Viceroy).

Language, he speculated, might have had its origins in singing, which "might have given rise to words expressive of various complex emotions."

Now researchers from MIT, along with a scholar from the University of Tokyo, say that Darwin was on the right path.

The balance of evidence, they believe, suggests that human language is a grafting of two communication forms found elsewhere in the animal kingdom: first, the elaborate songs of birds, and second, the more utilitarian, information-bearing types of expression seen in a diversity of other animals.
"It's this adventitious combination that triggered human language," says Shigeru Miyagawa, a professor of linguistics in MIT's Department of Linguistics and Philosophy, and co-author of a new paper published in the journal Frontiers in Psychology.
The idea builds upon Miyagawa's conclusion, detailed in his previous work, that there are two "layers" in all human languages: an "expression" layer, which involves the changeable organization of sentences, and a "lexical" layer, which relates to the core content of a sentence.

His conclusion is based on earlier work by linguists including Noam Chomsky , Kenneth Hale and Samuel Jay Keyser.


Based on an analysis of animal communication, and using Miyagawa's framework, the authors say that birdsong closely resembles the expression layer of human sentences -- whereas the communicative waggles of bees, or the short, audible messages of primates, are more like the lexical layer.
