@slider Was that an UHF radio scanner you got that center tap from? I'd like to find a consistent "item", that if I found one, I'd be likely to find a center tap tranny inside... most of the transformers I find are not CT.

After a lot of tweaking I think I like the XEE2 circuit used in a 3.6 - 6v configuration, supplying AC to a 3-legged gooseneck lamp. In each leg, I have an AC LED 2-watt bulb. So that's three lamps, in parallel. That way I can choose if I want one, two or three on, at the switch. My cap on the base is very small now, marked 105.
I have a solar panel in my window (it's a large window, and a small solar panel).
A long extension cord runs into a room about 40 ft away that I need the light. With a single 3.6v li-ion, or a 4v SLA, the lamp runs all day and the solar easily replenshes the battery, I laid a small mirror in front of it to help it out, given its location. In good sun, the solar panel (2 actually) runs at 7.4 240mA x 2, so about 400 mA of charge. The circuit only consumes about 350 mA, at 4v. In a -very slightly- dimmer mode, the circuit burns 200 mA, and is completely quiet.
It's a great setup. A lot cheaper than running a light tube from the roof, down through my living room (yeah, it'd be in the way...) to the basement!Last edited by kcarring; 11-28-2011, 06:31 AM.

I truly am torn, it's not like I haven't done it myself. it's just that when I look back on all the work many of us have done, I rarely see the original inventors name on it. it makes it look like so and so's work, as if so and so is the inventor and that's it.Originally posted by seth View PostWe have to give each mod, rep or circuit a name. Neat vid, good light output there. I'm finding that the light has different characteristics at different frequencies. For CFL's I guess it's just the same as when they first fire on mains power and the light is softer.
Following the video'd experiments of last night, I thought i'd try an old fashioned tungsten bulb in an unmodified nightlight. It runs great at 9V from the wall adapter, so current isn't as much of a problem as I expected
Exactly the same circuit, except a D1413 transistor is used and no other room light is on.

Wireless range experiments have been greatly helped by the addition of a ring of wire from an old CRT monitor. Of about 24 gauge, the ring has about 200 turns on it (a few removed for a coil wind some while ago). Only 1 HV wire needs to be attached to the approx 5" diameter ring. Your vid was great! I got the Xenon bulb lit....but the circuit would keep cutting out after 2 or 3 seconds. So its still not happy on the flyback. I'm getting the impression that gutted CFLs are the easiest to fire up. Im really happy you are getting such great results with the xenon - incredibly low current for firing that up. I hope I get some time this week to try and get mine firing too.

Just tried a diode WITHOUT the cap, on the base of the transistor, and its really improved performance. 100 microamps and the CFL is bright as you like! The xenon comes blaring on for 3 seconds, then cuts out......hmmmm....gotta get this sorted...Last edited by seth; 11-28-2011, 01:46 AM.

We have to give each mod, rep or circuit a name. Things would get too confusing if every circuit diagram became 'circuit diagram 346 from user 548'. Not to mention it being too much of a mouthful too. Much easier for the memory to say 'Patricks battery charger' or 'Laser's set up from the last video'....and even easier with 'ib's stove top cell' or 'Jonny davros magnet motor'.Originally posted by minoly View Post

I still had the circuit setup so I tried removing the diode and this is what happens.Using a 3300uf cap,the cap starts to charge and as it does so the current draw decreases until the cap reaches the supply voltage and current draw is zero so end result is the bulb goes out.If you use the 100pf,the cap charges instantanously so the circuit is only on for the blink of an eye.These tests were done running the xenon bulb bright usuing the cap mod on the xenon..
If i adjust the 100k pot so the xenon bulb is barely lit there is a jouleringer effect like what Seth is showing with his flyback.I have the circuit running of a capasitor and the xenon is lit drawing 100uA
and quite bright on 2.3mA with the neon across collector emitter lit but the strange thing is my voltmeter has to be in parallel with the cap to get this effect so what is the voltmeter doing to the circuit?I am leaving everything as it is until i figure out what is going on

This is wonderful. Although this is, as you say, like watching paint dry, this is in the final analysis what John Bedini has been trying to show us all since the mid 1980s.
The simplicity is, in the end, just to much to bare.
I / We all look for something flashy and amazing and here it is.
A solutions that just works in simple, everyday terms.
Radiant charging of batteries. Any number of batteries, for free.
Wasn't this the first fundamental thing we learned when we saw our first schematics of the Bedini circuits.
As an analogy;
This is the same realization I had when I started to really understand music.
The first song I learned "Chopsticks" / "Heart and Soul" / "The Rhythm Changes" ended up being the most important song I ever learned musically, because it ended up being the heart of music.
Thanks to everyone for restating the fundamentals in such clear terms.
LaserSaber, congratulation on reinvigorating this thread by your extreme simplification of the Joule Ringer circuit. It is like magic. Our best answers in the end will be simple and fundamental.

I don't mean anything by it. and... its not really mine, it's Tesla and others around and before.
I don't mean to belittle anyone's work. I have learned more from JB and others because of their willingness to share. I wish more great minds would have the same attitude.
I don't think I see anything original on any of the vids I watch nor see here on this forum, save a couple of great minds that do share here. a diode here a cap there. the fathers of this stuff did it all before us, we're just trying to figure out what they did with some new tech - since they all took it to their graves.
I don't think you are, but to all - please do not be offended. that is the last thing I want. I think by giving these things our own names, we take away from those before us. If on Thursday I would have added a nicely pureed Korean pair to my great grandmothers special 30 ingredient apple pie recipe and then called it Patrick's apple pie, she might not take it too kindly.
I think it's wonderful that we are all here sharing what we learn about how to make/reproduce the work of great minds before us.

Joule ringing would definitely compliment the setup and is part of my own interest in this thread and the work going on. And it's fun too
With normally finely soldering on little boards, this is like using a shovel to eat dinner.
@xee2 - I think we'll find that the inductor is working more like a capacitor in that spot. Smoothing the transients and backing up the output. With our trannies outputting a square wave and mains being sinusoidal, the difference is being seen by the smoothing effect of the inductor. Just a thought, i'm no electrician.

I would be really interested if someone could try my setup with one of those cheap Goldmine flybacks - If it works with those, would be really easy to replicate, study and enhance. I tried with my other flyback today which is also old junk, but it drew 40mAOriginally posted by xee2 View PostThat is very low current for lighting CFL.
