If you the answer then tell us. I agree about radiant energy and capacitors, grounding is probably for safety reason imho.

Please permit me, if you will, to save everyone else a great of time and effort experimenting with the various things that are known not to work. In here we talk about reproducing the "Don Smith Device", as if it were just one single device. Clearly it isn't, even just in the "Resonance Energy Methods" booklet I count at least 12 totally different designs, and there are more if you watch all the videos. What is it that they all have in common? What characteristics are different? For starters I would suggest that you can completely strike out such things as matched CW/CCW coils and the 1:4 ratio of wire by length, or by weight, as being of any value. As I have suggested before, it is highly instructive for any experimenter on the Don Smith front to take time out and design and build a conventional Tesla coil first. This will help you develop many skills. Hmm, didn't Don show a picture of one of his designs that just essentially bolted on to a TOTALLY CONVENTIONAL TESLA COIL? Have you stopped to consider why that is?
Also, over the years no small number of experimenters have fooled with Don Smith-like configurations and very, very few have claimed any measure of success. If the real secret was any of the more obvious things then certainly more people would have stumbled across it by now. If it was as simple as using wire in 1:4 ratio either by length or by weight, then certainly conventional Tesla hobbyists not even looking for overunity would have discovered that certain combinations produce unusual results.
No, after no small amount of research and experimentation, I have concluded that the secret lies in the combination of the ground, the capacitance, and the voltage environment. It is some combination of these that produces the effects we are looking for. When correct, the storage capacitor in the Don Smith machine (ANY of them) gets charged with this magic radiant/cold electricity, which then produces overunity gain by reducing Lenz's law when put through a transformer. You will see these elements as conserved in every one of Don's configurations (excepting those that presumably work a completely different principle, such at the magnetic shielding idea).
Also, I once at the workbench very clearly saw the radiant effect show up. I had been zapping a nearly dead 12V gel-cell with about 10,000V from my oil burner transformer. At the feeble currents the transformer delivers this didn't charge it appreciably, and yet when I used it to power my PVM12 high-frequency supply immediately afterward, for about a minute the looped configuration I had set up zoomed up in voltage instead of running down. Then the effect dissipated and it returned to acting normally. Essentially, imagine doing something very like a Bedini-style pulse charger does, only instead of getting a sharp positive pulse from the magnetic flyback effect of a coil, essentially zapping the positive terminal of the battery with an NST, dioded, into a spark gap. The negative is connected to ground, just as in the Bedini configurations. The real question is, WHY DID THIS PRODUCE UNCONVENTIONAL RESULTS? If I really knew the full answer to that question then I would have a working device by now, but I don't. I have a lot of ideas, but the ideas only last until I can actually prove them at the workbench.
One last parting shot: why did Kapanadze bury an old radiator in the ground before connecting the device in that first garden video? Why not just attach to the building wiring as Don did? This is a rhetorical question, because I already know the answer, as should you if you have actually built and operated a Tesla coil of any significant size and power.

Although I am not sure if it is this pulse that I am looking for or if this pulse should be excluded from the sequence, and the pulsing prior to discharge through the GDT is the chain of pulses is where my attention should be focused!

The resistor and the dielectric have property relationships in certain modes. section 3.2 https://www.hindawi.com/journals/amse/2014/578168/
From a practical instrumentation aspect a triggered spark has the bnc connectors to the adjustment panel and after warm up 6 hours settling you can find when
the current / travel rate is for a given dielectric and wave. beside the control panel* There is a resistor coming out of PT-55 used to reduce jitter.

I have puzzled over this as well, and experimented with it to no avail. Apparently it's one of the differences between "cold" and "hot" electricity. If the Don Smith configuration is working properly, the charge in the storage cap will be cold electricity, and this is what works the magic in the final transformer. Zilano also mentioned that this method with the resistor works to "pull the frequency down" and can be used to give 60 cycle sine wave AC without an inverter. I have had no luck making this work in practice, if you discharge a cap into the primary of a transformer it will indeed oscillate (at the LC resonant frequency). If you add a resistor across the transformer it will oscillate FASTER not slower, and the oscillations will die out sooner because of the power dissipation. So either this method is completely bogus and doesn't actually work in practice, or there is some different phenomenon that is supposed to show up when things are working right.Originally posted by p75213 View PostHas anybody tried this? My solution, which was not a Don Smith device or circuit, was to use the high voltage DC into a rotary variable capacitor to induce a 60 cycle oscillation through a standard high voltage transformer. This method did not work for me as the variable rotary capacitor construction was not built to the level it needed to be to do the job. The concept, however, should be sound and workable.
Although I do understand about adding resistance and capacitance to match the output transformer for a resonance frequency of 60 hz, I have not attempted nor really considered going in that line of experimentation - it being to expensive for me to source parts and replacements should any magic smoke leak out. I was / am limited to items I have on hand or can make out of things I have here.

Electrostatic Induction
hello tswift,
just want to share my thoughts, Electrostatic Induction or in eric dollard's term I believe is Dielectric Induction, is something we can further study by experiments like Hairpin Circuit (low or high voltage it just works) or in recent case would be dragon's "charge pump" experiment,
the Idea is to power things not with current but by voltage, only the initial current flow that charges the capacitor or the initial current by discharging the capacitor is what's powering the load my experiments tells me that this current is like a weird Alternating Current and can be used to power transformers.
and just want to comment on the nature of charge.. as I think "charge" is a "state" of something electrically (polarity) not actually some + and - "thing", that enters the capacitor. you can verify this by the 3 capacitor experiment..
Put 3 Capacitor in Series, Charge it to a certain voltage... now take all the capacitors apart and try to measure the middle capacitor with a volt meter, you would notice that it is "Charged" not because something entered it (because its literally not connected to the source)... but because it has been polarized.. something that is already there has been "polarized" and could not return to its "un-polarized" state(ambient) because of the dielectric in the capacitor.. and it would stay in its polarized state for some quite time ("charged").
by grasping the Idea of "Never Discharging" I am starting to see don smith was doing this magnetically, I am starting to see "Amperage" only as a rate of which Potential is Reduced to ambient. one thing I would like to find out now was if this "Energy Transfer" was indeed real or is just some misconceptualized Idea because the initial "Energy" was only used ONCE...
