      Aaron & all,

in the absence of the water-dunk, here are a few lil findings...

12v bulb, no spark gap, bulb not lit

2 bulbs in parallel, both lit, but very very dim

2 bulbs in series, both lit to same brightness as 1 bulb, with a change in the nature & sound of the spark gap, sounds fiercer & more crackly, with 1 bulb the spark gap sounds whiney & uniform.

3 'bulbs' in series..... 1st a 12v bulb, next a CFL, then another 12v bulb, neither bulb is lit but the CFL is quite bright.

        For Aaron

Aaron, based on how my circuit is at the moment with say a single light bulb connected, 'where' in the circuit would 'you' put a cap or caps to further explore this?...

here is a list of the caps i have...

        220uF, 100V, non polar, electro
        56uF, 400V, electro
.047uF, 2000V, polypropylyne with metal foil.
        15uF, 450VAC,50/60Hz (taken from a lawn mower)
        220uF, 400V, electro (from crt)
        2,200uF, 50V, electro x 2
        4,700uF, 35V, electro
        3,300uF, 25V, electro x 2
        1.5+/- 5%, dc 250V, MPP./TSC (401) from CRT
        .0062J, DC2000V,PPS./TSC (403) from crt

        thanks

not sure where that came from in any case. i wish you all well.

          Hi alex,

Thanks for the clearification, the illustrations I posted came from the book "The Inventions, Researches and Writings of Nikola Tesla" By Thomas Commerford Martin, Nikola Tesla

whilst wait, i took the plunge (literally)

ok, while waiting for advice on caps,

i put on one seriously thick rubber glove, holding one seriously insulated pair of pliers, which in turn was holding onto the lead of the bulb....and put it in a glass of water.......and.......

              1) im still here , which is kewl :-)

              2) the spark gap changed its sound again

              3) the was LIT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am now a member of the lit-bulb club !!!!!!

                  video's

                  Hi All,

just did two quick videos, crappy quality cos im waiting for my digi cam battery to charge so i did them using a webcam thingy, sounds is crackly, but youll get the idea... turn the volume UP !!

first vid shows bulb & cfl & short across the bulb,

2nd vid shows bulb with neon in series and also bulb in water.

                        Nice job Rave!

I would be willing to ship you a frog for a test subject for your next light bulb in water test.

                            interesting

                            Hi all,

see stached circuit, which is basically same as last time but with the bifilar coil remoived.

the text in the diagram says it all really, whats causing this?

                              quick update

bulb is lit with only 1 lead connected, however does not light ( at least that i can see ) unless another lead is connected to the other leg, free-floating so to speak......is this thing sucking electrons from the air?...

ill try a piece of foil on the "free" lead, see if it increases the bright ness

the foil increased the brightness, to about...maybe...40-50%
