    It is here somewhere. John B called it a comparitor like we find in a 555
    timer but he maybe using an LM339 I can think right now. Although you
    can look at what he says.

    John says in THE video that when the setting made the cap will discharge
    at the voltage not based on time. His waits for the set voltage to dump.

    This can be done using zeners at the base of the transistor creating
    an automatically fired "ADJUSTABLE CROWBAR"

    I talk about the simple "CROWBAR" extensively in the adjacent thread
    to this one called "Mikey's Beast SSSG Oscillator"

    I need to but I haven't built that one yet.

    Last year I worked on many cap dumps that can be used to
    charge a battery. This diagram is a specific application but all
    it does is to take a DC source and turn is on and off at 1-10
    pulses per second to charge the batteries.

    It is a very slow Pulse Width Modulator, a timer circuit that
    uses the transistor switch at a very low rate of speed.

    This circuit is your basic REGULATOR manually adjusted

    Okay I am back with a small update.

    Remember when I got my big batteries last year in the summer? Well in this video I made back then https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zo-HVy7gtBI all I had was a tiny dump.

    Since then many of you knew I built a larger capacitor discharge bank.
    Well I wanted you all to know it still works and I just went down stairs to top off the Big Battery Bank. I have been discharging the bank on and off for many days over the past few months plus this week the power lines all got knocked down. Wires all over the place with half broken off poles still connected and running power in the lines.

    Crazy power companies.

    The wind blows and we are out of power over the least little one, flicker, brownout, throw the secondaries 2 seconds and run for the GENSET or in my case for the battery bank.

    Well It works everytime. The batteries were not low, each cell was completely wet with the ALUM yet I poured a tiny bit more into each of the huge cells. the cells are aprox 9" X 9" X 32" tall a total of 12 cells to make up my 24 pack and the entire topping off process took only 2-3 quarts which over filled them just in case.

    For years my batteries would always fail and during the power outages we used a GASOLINE GENSET converted to propane. Not anymore. We still have the genset in case of a 1 week outage like last time but generally the outages last only 4- 8 hours.

    This time was the best ending battery voltage I had every seen with my new set. I ran 500 watts all evening and over night and ended at 12.25volts resting voltage. Also i have run these converted ALUM batteries down lower than any acid battery and they give me twice as much power.

    It takes twice the energy to charge them of course but the power is there, something conventional chargers may not allow. I like practical devices. If I can't make it work well consistently, I don't want it. If the circuit goes up in smoke every few days it is worthless.

    I fire 12 tiny fets to dump my batteries. They all open together at the same time and mosfet gates are less power hungry than high powered audio transistors. So I used a single bipolar transistor to fire all of the gates. An opto triggers the single transistor. The gates do not all open perfectly simultaneously so to balance the network I use the short coils of heavy awg wire to create a miniscule amount of resistance seen by the fets yet still negligible. The coils are also known as arc suppression coils. Wire wound resistors are the same thing.

    The Mosfets went completely cold after using the coils to suppress arcing.

    The heat (What little there was in the fets) went to the coils on the front and back side, so in 110 degree heat the fet run very cool.

    The only thing left to do is finish my beast oscillator so I can fill the caps with the good stuff

    About the Energizer boost converter that charge the caps.

    I use the 3:1 rule. For fast resistance free charging of caps always buy 3X voltage. For instance my input supply will not exceed 100volts using a transformer and I dump at 90vdc. My caps are 250vdc.

    The best way to protect for over voltages is to limit the trigger wire on the boost converter. If you HAVE a trigger coil. Either way the fets can be controlled at the trigger leg. Many types of SSSG converters exist.

    One large fet in the triggering circuit could stop the rising voltage. Or limit to a certain level. If I find a good circuit I will post it.

    First I think it important to understand that cap dump circuits come in many forms. John Bedini has built about every circuit.

    A comparator circuit is one, a timing cap dump circuit is another.

    For each case 28-30vdc is released over a 12vdc battery.

    Twice as much voltage as the battery being charged.

    A comparator circuit waits to dump based on the voltage you set it at.

    If you set it to 30vdc the circuit will wait till it fills the cap to 30vdc then dump. This is good for a varying input when charging the cap bank.

    Like if a solar panel is being used to charge the caps, it will wait till the preset voltage is reached. If it is cloudy outside the caps may take 5-10 seconds to charge, then dump.

    If you are using a timing circuit that discharges the cap 1-3 times per second then it becomes important that the input voltage be controlled or fixed.

    Do you understand these basic statements?

    The comparator is here somewhere. Do you actually require one? Or are you just curious?

    It is funny you should bring this up because I was thinking today that I would like to locate a voltage shut down circuit as well as a safety precaution. Should the terminal slip off the SSSG generator HOOKED to the dump, at about 80volt my 21194's would go into smoke down mode. Not very funny.

    This is why I am going to a MOSFET 460 that has a higher voltage capability.

    I use a 555 timing circuit but the comparator circuit is equally as simple if you so desire or need it. John B has one for $600. Equivalently my dump circuit is valued at approx. $5000 minimum.

    Some one will help us I am sure. I need a decent shut down circuit, say 50-60volts.

    Here are few pictures from the start of the project that has been completed months ago. I can't find my final shots. I can run at 90 percent duty cycle all day long at 1500 watts in 100 degree heat. I used 12 fets and 4 balancing coils to low heat under these conditions. Max switching speed is 3-5 microseconds.

    I currently discharge at 90vdc into a 36vdc bank of 1000ah or I can charge them in parallel and that would be approx 12vdc @ 3000ah.

    I can dump a 60amp pulse at 90vdc all day long in 100 degree heat with no heat issues whatsoever. The sink is at 2-5 degrees above room temp MAX.

    3 dumps per second I am a happy man with this unit

    So I read through this thread and maybe I missed it but I'm trying to find the closest circuit to Bedini's comparator 😬 does anyone have one?? I would be so very very appreciative and excited and glad lol

    Trying to discharge 24v into 12v batt 😐I'm not into the 24 or 48 levels yet. I want to get this going and run tests then mayb graduate on up to higher voltage banks. I started this around a year ago and I don't have an oscilloscope yet but I've seen results of the spikes and have been working on the discharge circuit for a few months. I'm about to hook a generator coil up too and I want to maximize on that with a good cap dump circuit. This is my first attempt to reach out so please go easy on this newb. Thanks!!

    Btw I been looking at you guyses posts off and on for months and almost feel like I know you, bro Mikey, Mario and farmhand lol

    Im drawing 210 milliamps running four one watt led's.
    The led's are not at full brightness.

    I ran this setup all day and most of the night trying to kill the 1.5v battery it dropped out at .55v
    Im charging the battery now between the collectors of each stage and still running an led across the collector and emitter of each stage.

    Just playing with it, I plan on taking it to the next stage soon.
    I have to buy more wire.

    The pnp stage runs the led alot brighter than the npn stage.

    Unknown Amp Draw

    Okay since the amp draw is unknown let me tell you that when i do these Jt circuits using a 1Volt battery it can draw 100-200ma and in your case times 2 because it is a double whamee.

    This is a minimum 3.5vdc 60 ma output

    Or a Maximum 3.5vdc 120ma.

    This should power 20 LED's

    I have done the Lasersaber and JT circuits many times and know this from experience to be pretty close.

    Now go to work adding bulbs. You could probably split a whole string of Xmas LED's into 3 or 4 sets to play with how much.

    The little amp meters off ebay are 0-5 amp 0-1 amp 0-10 amps all $5 to the door.

    Iv been watching Dave and Matt's 3BGS progress so I put three AA battery's in series turned the middle one around and am lighting the led's pos to pos or neg to neg.

    I may need to synchronize the gates.
    I know the stages are not running at the same frequency, they cant be the core windings arent the same.
    Is it working in push pull mode, lots of questions.
    The second stage does increase the brightness of the led
    got me scratching my head
