Is time travel possible?

Hi Bizzy, I just wanted to point out that the question you ask here is the right one, whereas the poll question asks, "Will time travel be possible?"

"Will" simply ponders if time travel will be possible at some future date, while "Is" asks if time travel is already possible.

To my thinking, if time travel will be possible in the future, then it already is possible now. That assumption is based, of course, on the perception that a time traveler who is born at a future date could theoretically be visiting us right now. Now some would theorize that it would be impossible to travel backwards in time to any date previous to the existence of the time travel apparatus or method. Others would theorize that even if it were possible for the apparatus to stay within it's current time, the time traveler could be going back to a time before he or she existed. Likewise, under a theory of future time travel, one could only consciously go forward in time to the moment of their death, and at that date (or any time afterwards) one would be dead on arrival.

One could theorize, however, that there could be solutions to such dilemmas. For example, a person could be disintegrated, "teleported" to a past or future time, and reintegrated in the same state they were in before departing. Under such method, the device used for teleportation would never leave its current time zone, so could not fail to exist, and the teleported person's age would be unaffected.

There are countless theories regarding time travel, and each theory has a viable counter theory. In my opinion, the multiple universe/parallel universe theory is the one most suited to time travel, as it basically allows for any situation to occur that would otherwise be ruled out by theories attributed to conventional thinking. For example, the theory that one could not go back in time and cause their grandfather's death, as one would then never have been born, would not apply. It would also be possible for several you's to all simultaneously travel to a single parallel universe and meet together, either at the same age level, or in various stages of aging. The possibilities are limitless, and quite interesting, if you ascribe to this theory.

Bottom line is, since there is no theory that can adequately deny the possibility for the existence of time travel, I would have to believe that it is not only possible but that it already must exist.
