That article, concerning the new $100 bills, was quite interesting. Quite strange that the $100 bill is the last bill to receive special modifications to thwart attempts at counterfeiting, when it has long been the case that it is the bill most widely copied by counterfeiters. Just 2 days ago, a story came out concerning how North Korea is producing huge numbers of counterfeit $100 bills (North Korea attacking U.S. with fake $100 bills) and distributing them through Russian and Chinese money laundering operations. This massive infusion of US dollars has two effects:
1. Currently there is only about $850 billion of US paper currency in circulation worldwide, so a massive infusion of $100 bills results in currency devaluation.
2. The non-counterfeit money earned by North Korea by selling the counterfeit bills can be exchanged for real goods or commodities, including gold, so it could safely be assumed that North Korea is in fact hoarding gold, just like their Chinese and Russian cohorts. It is no secret that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is also hoarding huge amounts of gold. The IMF is like a central banker to the world's central banks. The United States Bullion Depository (Fort Knox) holds about 4,603 tons (4,176 metric tonnes) ofgold bullion (147.399 million troy ounces). It is second in the United States only to the Federal Reserve Bank

of New York’s underground vault in Manhattan, which holds about 5,000 metric tons of gold in trust for many foreign nations, central banks and official international organizations. Strange that anyone would trust the Federal Reserve, isn't it?

The last audit of the U.S. gold reserves was supposed to have taken place in 2005, but according to auditors KPMG LLP, they only audited the mint's fiscal year 2005 financial statements and they never saw any physical gold or even went to Fort Knox! The last real audit of the U.S. gold reserves took place in 1954, according to National Inflation Association, (NIA). Isn't that nice! And with the "Audit The Fed" bill shot down by our legislators, it certainly looks like they don't want us to know how much gold "We The People" really have, or where that gold now is.

In addition to the gold bullion held by the Federal Reserve, the Fed also has gold certificates in ther possession that equal 99.96 % of the total stated US gold reserves book value of just over 11 billion dollars (about $6.2 billion of which is supposedly held at Fort Knox), which is currently stated at around $42.22 per troy ounce. With the actual market price of gold now at about $1,200, and quite likely to reach $2,000 or more within a year or two, the Fed could exercise their option to cash in their gold certificates for US gold reserves as guaranteed by law to be payable on demand. While this is not a likely scenario while the Fed remains empowered, let's suppose the Fed was abolished. The question then becomes, when they cash out in actual gold, would they be paid 99.96% of the book value of $11 billion from the current reserve value of about $200 billion if figured at market value, or would they reap the full 99.96% of the reserves based on current book value? I think the answer to that is obvious. The Fed would simply get our legislators to revalue the US gold reserves, and thus their gold certificates, to current market value. The impetus for doing that, of course, would be a push to return to a gold standard.

A final few notes of interest: Of all the gold that has been mined to date (about 120,000 to 150,000 tonnes, the governments of the world currently hold a total of about 20% of that amount. The central banks of the world hold about another 25%, and private individuals hold the remaining 55% in the form of gold jewelry, gold coins, and privately held gold bullion. In addition, the known unmined reserves remaining below ground amount to about 50,000 tonnes, with South Africa holding 50% of those reserves.
