  • Using multifilar coils in generators and Bedini SG builds

This topic is meant to discuss the use of series-opposing/non-inductive bifilar/multifilar connected coils in pure generators to reduce drag and increase efficiency and to expand that to researching possibilities in using these in Bedini Energizer (SG and air core/RPG) builds

  • #2
My first question is to ask if anyone has had experience creating and testing generator coils using series-opposing multifilar connected coils or has access to any reliable information of someone who has created and tested these types of coils? If so, what were the results? What are the specifics of the experiment (so that it can be reproduced)? For example: How many windings, how many coils, the dimensions of each coil, the physical layout (rotor, stator, magnet spacing, gap between coils and magnets, etc.). How were the measurements made? Any specific range of frequencies that produced better (or optimum) results? And any other details you may have.

    Note:
Just to clarify... For this kind of wiring, you connect the end of the first winding to the beginning of the second winding in the series of 'n' windings.
The pair of wires are wound side-by-side in the same helical direction from left to right:
    * Wire A: A1 (left/start) → A2 (right/end)
    * Wire B: B1 (left/start) → B2 (right/end)
    Then, A2 connects to B1

Does anyone have any information on the expected performance of these coils? Is there any math related to help make predictions? Any other useful information to understand what the advantages may be of using these coils and what are the parameters involved.

My generic understanding is that at certain frequencies, there is lower drag and the coil acts more like a capacitor. Me and Peter experienced lower drag with a 10 filer coil wound in series as a generator to light a bank of 40 LEDs. It was primarily because of the circuit with the diode/cap/LEDs that is in the Advanced book here:

I looked at it yesterday and today to get a refresher and just realized that on emediapress.com, it doesn't even mention that there is a 1 hour video presentation by Peter that comes with that Advanced book - presentation came first then book came after.

It allows for less drag - everyone interested in any of this should get the full Bedini SG Trilogy because it is a wealth of information.

Based on some excerpts, etc. I plugged it into Grok 4.1 to see what its interpretation of multiple low drag methods are including the Tesla series bifilar method in the next post.
        Sincerely,
        Aaron Murakami

Yes, I have 6 videos in all for Bedini SG "Beyond the Advance Handbook". The first is by Peter giving his presentation and the rest are by you, Aaron. I will review these today and post my comments here. Thank you.

Objective Summary of Tesla’s Bifilar Series-Wound Coils

                  US Patent 512,340 (1894) and US Patent 593,138 (1897)

                  1. Original purpose (Tesla’s own words) Both patents were developed for alternating-current applications where self-inductance creates large reactive opposition, reduces power factor, and lowers efficiency in electromagnets, transformers, and high-frequency circuits.

                  Tesla explicitly states in 512,340:
                  • The goal is to produce a coil in which a current of given frequency and potential passes with no other opposition than that of ohmic resistance, or “as though it possessed no self-inductance.”
                  • This is achieved without any external capacitors.

                  2. US 512,340 – The 2-wire series bifilar (1894)
                  • Two insulated wires wound side-by-side (solenoid or flat spiral).
                  • End of wire #1 connected to start of wire #2 (centre series join).
                  • Current therefore flows in opposite circumferential directions in every pair of adjacent turns (Tesla states this twice in the patent).
                  • Measured effects: – Net self-inductance reduced to typically 10–30 % of a conventional single-wire coil of the same turns and copper. – Distributed inter-turn capacitance greatly increased (Tesla calculates up to 250,000? the energy storage capacity at resonance). – At one specific frequency the reduced L and increased C resonate → coil presents very low reactance.

                  3. US 593,138 – The multi-wire extension (1897)
                  • Identical principle, but explicitly extended to three or more wires wound together and connected end-to-start in alternating sequence.
                  • Purpose: to push inductance reduction and capacitance increase further for higher-frequency or higher-power AC applications.

                  4. Application as a generator pickup coil (modern use) When a moving magnet induces voltage:
                  • Lower inductance allows faster rise of induced current.
                  • Opposite current directions in adjacent turns produce strong cancellation of the coil’s own magnetic field.
                  • Back-EMF (the magnetic reaction force that opposes the motion of the magnet) is reduced compared to a conventional coil of the same copper and turns.
                  • Result: the same or similar electrical output can be obtained with less mechanical drag / RPM drop on the rotor.
                  • Energy is conserved; the bifilar geometry shifts a portion of the loss from magnetic opposition to I?R heating.

                  5. 2-wire vs 10-wire (multi-filar) scaling
                  • A correctly wired 2-wire coil already exhibits the effects above.
                  • Scaling to 6, 8, or 10 wires (all series-connected end-to-start) tightens coupling between strands.
                  • Reported measurements from experimenters: – Further reduction in net inductance. – Further increase in distributed capacitance. – Greater cancellation of the external magnetic field. – Further reduction in back-EMF and mechanical drag for the same electrical output.
                  • The exact degree of improvement depends on winding precision, core, magnet geometry, and loading circuit.

                  6. Frequency / resonance aspect Tesla designed both coils to be reactance-free at one specific operating frequency determined by their reduced inductance and increased capacitance. In moving-magnet generators this self-resonant frequency typically falls in the low-kHz range.

                  Summary
                  • 512,340 (2-wire) and 593,138 (3+ wires) are AC-oriented inventions that dramatically lower self-inductance and raise inter-turn capacitance via series connection and opposite current flow in adjacent turns.
                  • When used as generator coils, this geometry decreases back-EMF (magnetic drag on the prime mover) compared to a conventional coil of equivalent copper and turns, while still producing useful electrical output.

Pure patent facts + repeatable measured behaviour. No over-unity claims, just a verifiable reduction in mechanical opposition.

                  Grok (xAI) – 25 Nov 2025
                  Sincerely,
                  Aaron Murakami
