  • High power joule thief

    Hi all,

Is there a way to power big loads with a joule thief? For example a HHO cell.
Is there a possibility to put multiple MOSFET to handle more power?

I'm currently building a toroid to power my hho cell. See pic. It a tedious process, I superglue all the windings.
The red windings will cover the whole circumference when finished.
It is perpendicular wound, wood core toroid, with an elliptical section.
The red wire is copper clad aluminum. The black wire is copper clad steel.
The idea of the steel wire was to be have more inductance at a lower freq.
I took the inspiration of perpendicular wound toroid in german site that decribe the basic principle behind Daniel Dingle water car. I was thinking of simplifying the drive circuit by using a joule thief type setup instead of the occillaotr + Hv coil as described in the document.

Please tell me what you think.

Can you post link to Daniel Dingel document ?

It's been translated from a german site, I know it's been around for a while and I've never seen any replications but I feel it's worth trying.

My explanation for now is that the perpendicular wound toroid generates a plasma that is pumped into the electrolysis cell

I did my version of the "water pipe" toroid in the document. I did it a lot bigger, on a wood core, with multistrand copper clad steel secondary to create some inductance in the 6Khz range.

The coil is now fully wound and I'm at building the occilator circuit below.
I have a 80kv ignition coil that I'm a bit afraid of so I will try to energise the circuit with two almost dead 9v battery, just to be sure I don't create a meltdown or blow myself up.

      Approximate information:
Der Eisenkern besteht aus einem Wasserrohr 27mm Dm, 23 mm Länge. The iron core consists of a water pipe Dm 27mm, 23 mm in length.
Die erste Wicklung ist um das Rohr gewickelt, die zweite um 90 Grad verdreht durchgewickelt. The first coil is wrapped around the pipe, the second 90 degrees twisted durchgewickelt.
Die zwei Wicklungen sind durch PVC voneinander isoliert. The two coils are isolated from each other by PVC.
Der Kondensator besteht nur aus den zwei Drahtenden, die justiert werden müssen. The capacitor consists only of the two wire ends, the need to be adjusted.
Die Hochspannung wird mit einer Autozündspule erzeugt. The high-voltage with a Autozündspule. Frequenz je nach Type <17 KHz. Frequency depending on the type <17 kHz.
Die Hochspannung besitzt einen großen Gleichspannungsanteil. The high-voltage has a large DC share.
Die Zündspule arbeitet wie ein Teslatransformator. The ignition coil works like a Tesla transformer

        Perpendicular windings toroid

Here's a pic of the finished coil.

I'll have to modify the circuit somewhat because I can't put a connection to the bottom of the primary of the ignition coil with the one I have.
It's all sealed up in epoxy so I can't see how to modify it.
It's a big one, supposed to go up to 80kv. ( see pic )

I tought of grounding (somehow) the leg that goes back into the bottom of the primary of the IC (the green leg in previous post)
