    I was thinking the same thing, because I presume that should you change to a different bulb supplier you would need to tweek the tuning a bit.

    Did you per chance use a generator and check the decay time of the light after a pulse?

    I'm a bit confused... didn't you already build, and publish a video about a build of the joule ringer with an off the shelf E-core? Or is this an entirely new joule ringer. Thanks.

    Tomorrow i am going to disassemble one monitor and pull out the toroid from it, so we shell see how successful i am going to be in this job.

    Just one more question: those CFLs which you lit with your set up, are they specify as 8 Watts bulbs, or 11 W, or 15 W? I mean if you put CFLs which needs more power to be lited then the efficiency of your set up should diminish i presume, am i right?

    Does anyone know how much HV LaserSebers toroid could have on the output? I bet LaserSeber knows. In USA CFLs works with 110 V? Does it mean that we have to wound more turns on the secondary here in Europe (220V)?

    That car was made by the same company. Mine is called the vanguard city car. It is a fun project. People never stop asking questions about it when I pull into a store parking lot with it.

    This morning I had a breakthrough building a Joule Ringer with a ferrite E core. It was very easy to make and should be easy for everyone to build. More info will be coming soon.

    I thought that this would come in handy at this point, of finding no big toroids. Might be one way around it. Woopy is doing something similar.
    Willy (IST) had mentioned using the Tv yokes as the toroid, years ago.
    and now Tariel Kapanadze's friends are also experimenting with using them
    Somehow it all looks similar... to the Lasersabers design.
    Now theres a lot more of those yoke (ferrite) coils to be had, as everyone want the flat screen Tvs and monitors, and the regular crts are being trashed.

    I found this video by Willy96 very interesting, especially the part showing the magnet effects on the output.

    Is this your electric car? It is called a Comuta Car. I found this 1980 model for sale and it looks like yours. It is actually a pretty interesting design. It looks like something out of the Jetsons. They say that the range is about 50 miles and top speed about 45.

    I have been searching for the toroid core but still no luck. If we can't find that core we are back to much less effecient situation but it is still doable. The biggest ferrite cores that I have found are 2 1/2" to 3" od. Getting the 750 winds on the secondary gets hard though with the smaller size.

    LaserSeber, listen very carefully because i am gonna say this only once:

    Stick them up, and handover your setup, and electric vehicle too, of course to me!

    There is no smiles, so it means i am serious, of course. (ups, there is smile though, oh, what a relief for you, ha?)

    And now something completely different (but not spanish inquisition), serious question: could i disassemble some old pc monitors (or something else) and try to find there some similar toroids or it has to be exact toroid that you have presented in your vids?

    Second: Have you tried some other transistors, and what were the results of these testings with different transistors?

    Ok - G'day :-)
    some time in the middle of the night, this thing dropped out of tune and took my primary down to 6.11 while the charge battery stayed at about 6.40. put a bulb on it... it's not fluff
    however, the voltages are too close to call it anything. I see more runs in my future...
    will experiment lighting some led's and cfl's today...

    New to the ringing here, though was a campanologist in my early years

    Enjoyed the video Lasersaber and must say, that car is really cool.
    (i've always wondered if an electric cars batteries can be rung when it's at cruising speed).

    Woopy's idea looks an absolute cracker
    I've got a few of those from old monitors and will definitely try one in place of the elusive exotic toroid.
    A question Woopy - did you keep the little spring clip things that hold the two pieces together ? I've thrown those away, so am wondering if securely putting the two sides together and gluing would work.

    that diode in there and w/ the cap across a pot is the JAM!
    I added that to my SSG and turned it solid state immediately, lighting up the neon full bright w/ 6 volts.
    this is the basic SSG w/o the joule thief twist.

    Thanks for the great video showing your whole setup. I want your car!!!
    The batteries are another facet of your project that is very interesting. You are the first person I have seen using those type on a small solar power unit. Those would be great for my boat.

    The toroid is going to be the problem here. It really reminds me of the "Jenny's Light" project where the design called for a big 3" toroid that ended up being impossible to find---cheaply. The ones we were using were surplus and the supplier quickly ran out once Jenny's design hit Youtube.
    I have been searching for your Metglas toroid and, like you, have had no luck finding a low cost one.

    I hope that someone can find a source for one that doesn't cost more than about $20. Your system looks like something ANYONE would like to have ----if the cost is realistic. I looked at the Harbor Freight solar panel package (now costs $179) and it actually looks pretty good. People look down on those amorphous cell panels but they work in low light and I have three on my boat that have worked well for many years. They might not last too long in the weather and the output isn't the best----but they do work.

    I have found these nanoperm ones though, they may work. 20.000 to 200.000 perm.
    NANOPERM cores, NANOPERM toroidal cores

    You might try to e-mail Metglass and ask them about their big toroids. They also have samples that can be ordered to try, as well as making custom orders.

    Thanks for the additional info on your circuit, concerning the diode and pot.
    We'll all be looking forward to more information, and replications.
