5.6 STORAGE STABILITY OF PLASTIC-DERIVED DIESEL FUELFactors which decrease storage life of diesel:The additive consists of three major components, namely:Antioxidant. Fuel oils are subject to deterioration due to oxidation and this occurs both during storage and in service. Oxidation gives rise to formation of gums and sludge.
Olefinic compounds produced by cracking are more susceptible to oxidation. Gum is the product of a series of oxidation and polymerization reactions. Antioxidants function by combining with peroxide free radicals and by decomposing hydroperoxides into stable substances. The antioxidants used in the additive are a combination of sterically hindered phenol-type antioxidants.
Detergent. The detergent and dispersant, keeps oil insoluble combustion products in
suspension and also prevents resinous-like oxidation products from agglomerating into COMMERCIAL PYROLYSIS PROCESSES 403
solid particles. Thus they prevent formation of deposits on metal surfaces, oil thickening and sludge deposition. The component used is ethoxylated products of alkyl phenols.
Metal deactivator. Metal deactivator prevents precipitation of metal ion oxidation reactions and precipitation of insoluble metal compounds. Metal deactivator in combination with other antioxidants, shows strong synergistic effects. Oxygen and moisture present,
diffuse through oil film and cause corrosion. Amine derivative, used in the additive has good water-displacing properties. They impede sludge formulation, disperse sediments and reduce corrosion in various fuel systems.

I would like to hear community experiences about the above article.

Hi Asad
I don't consider this a big problem, we will use those additives and everything will be ok. My friend gave me a sample bottle of diesel made from polyethylene, it was standing on the shelf for a year now, mostly closed of course. I have not seen any changes with it. Maybe some very faint sediments. It seems that the oxydation problem only occurs if polypropylene is used, form that material the fuel comes out dark and gets darker after a while.



Those are the sample bottles I mentioned. They are about a year old. The liquid fuel looks now still exactly the same.

Please read through all this thread before you ask questions. Most of them are already answered. As for the thermostat, it has a temperature sensor that tells it when to sqitch the coils ON and OFF. There is no magic dutycycle because the temperature depends on many things.

Also, today my friend visited me and we filtered some fuel using the centrifugal filter. It works really great and fast. He has already driven around 1000km using this homemade diesel without any problems at all. Today we also tried the filtered gasoline on a genset - works like charm, absolutely no difference from standard gasoline, except for the fuel color
I will post some pictures of what is left in the filter after the filtering later.

Centrifuge Filter

You are right cenrifuge filter .
Even after ONE Year's storage of this type of fuel . Just centrifuging AGAIN will remove all the unnecessary Gums & moisture buildup.

Is it possible to build our own centrifuge filter by casting the required BOWL & than attaching it with a 12000 RPM motor system ???
OR is it possible to purchase just the Bowls & built our own Filter system ???:

have a look at their other products, they also have the bowls separetelly. Those prices are considered cheap, because we searched long and every other offer was way more expensive. This one rotates at up to 6000RPM, it has a frequency regulator that lets you adjust the motor speed as desired. Works really well. I had a look at that bowl and it should be possible to turn that part on a lathe rather cheap. It is made of aluminum. But it should be centered and ballanced rather good. This unit is very very quiet even at max speed, I was amazed by that

There is another centrifuge design that I'm considering, and, am not associated in any way with this provider: Simple Centrifuge ...putting a centrifuge in every garage!

I'm particularly interested in a c/f that is self-cleaning, or, at least, partially, or easily cleaned, with exchangeable centers, so that I can switch to a fresh drum, while cleaning the previously loaded drum.

Newest concept that my friend introduced me to.



Such a concept is used in some japanese units. It extrudes the plastic into a tube that is placed on an angle to go a bit upwards. The molten plastic is pushed through that tube and the tube is heated at the same time to some 500 degree. This makes the plastic boil and evaporate leaving only spolids and carbon, maybe some ashes. These are then pushed further till they drop in a collector bin. The gasses travel through the condenser and turn into liquid. The gasses that don't turn into liquid can be used to heat the angled tube.
