  • Parametric Power Conversion

After reading Eric Dollard's posts about Parametric Power Conversion, I've been thinking about it quite a bit lately, and it seems like most of the theory to make it happen is already in use in the RotoVerter technology.

It seems like it may be as simple as taking an inductive load that has a constant power drain (for simplicity at first), and determining the correct capacity of a power factor correction capacitor. Once you know the desired capacity, you can just use that figure as the maximum value of your variable capacitor. Apply 120 volts of potential to the cap, and oscillate at 60hz between your maximum capacity and zero. (maybe you'd need 2 caps 180 degrees out of phase)

I sure hope Eric Dollard can give us some more ideas.

Good idea. There is certainly much to be discovered by varying parameters.
Do you reckon that this would be a a voltage-variable cap (varactor) or how do you plan to vary the capacitance?
