Hiding in plain sight 
I occasionally check out the military defense industry rags... An old habit from when they were my Customers. This article could be very interesting (depending on how you interpret what is said between the lines on these secret technologies); from the May, 2009 issue of "Seapower"... Lol, these are the kind of magazines where instead of advertising cars and hair shampoo, they sell million-dollar radar systems, and multi-billion-dollar warships
"Propulsion Solutions" is the article title, which discusses the Navy's switching to "electric ships"... Apparently right now there is a competition between "High-Temperature Super-Conductivity" that uses a VERY UNIQUE ceramic wire for the windings of a series-wound motor and separate Generator Coils...
And "Permanent Magnet Motors".
In the article it says that the major drawback with the PMM design is: "the inability to turn off the magnetic field of the motor in the event of a fault". Hmm... imo, that is an interesting statement we need to think about a minute.

Apparently another requirement for the contractors is that the power plant must be capable of supplying the warship's "Directed Energy Weapons", as well as propulsion.
