It only makes sense that it would work. The kinetic energy in the waves is a result of the natural forces of nature. It just took a while to develop the technology to harness the kinetic energy.

This energy also contradicts the Law of Energy Conservation based on the context the word convert is used. Nothing is converted except the path of the wave. If the water became perfectly still, no wind or waves, it would no longer have kinetic energy only potential energy. As soon as the wind starts again you have kinetic energy again. It goes from potential to kinetic and back to potential 100s or 1000s times a day.
