  • Question about "Grouply"??

I have been getting several email messages requesting ->

I like your posts to our Bedini_SG group. Since we seem to share some of the same interests, I want to add you as a friend in Grouply, where you can see my profile with my pictures and my groups. Maybe you might find some cool new groups to join.

    -----------------------------

Is this a valid service? Or is this just another way spammers collect active email addresses?

    Thanks!

You do not have to prove something for it to be true. However, you do have to prove something for others to believe it true.

    Google grouply

Hello Mart? Had you thought about Googling Grouply? There is a ton of info there............if you've got the time. It isn't something eyed be interested in though. I've already got enough logs on the fire.

But I'd say that if they are soliciting you then you could probably do without them/it.

      Ok, your hunch was right.

I've been getting unsolicited messages from Grouply for months now too. The worst thing you can do is to click on an "unsubscribe" link, if they have one, as this simply confirms that your e-mail address is valid and then you will start getting a lot more spam. Instead, add them to a "block list" if your e-mail supports one, or use spam filtering to send these messages to a Junk folder.

            Spam and Yahoo

If recall correctly the service takes control of all your yahoo and google like services. Not good

              Beware of unknown

Some of these bad guys are randomly hitting folks then sending spam to everyone in your contact list with junk mail.

              Best to check B4 responding.

Some vendors are doing it as well. Not the good ones

                Play it safe

If the email is in HTML format, then just looking at it can confirm
you opened the email and thus validate your email address is Active and
                open the flood gates.

                example: <img src="http://evil.server.com/ConfirmEmailIsVaild.asp?Confirm=UniqueID4ThisEmail Related 2YourEmailAddress_OR_SimplyYourEmailAddress">

And just looking at the email nails you.
You can save the email without looking at it as a TEXT file, then open the
text file. I do this all the time with email I want to view safety.
I use non-web based email app.

You now know, you have an option to be safe and paranoid or ...
                Roll-the-Dice and take your chances.

Some email viewers have text only viewing option but that's just as much a
pain depending upon how much spam you get.
