  • How to transfer energy from one point to another in a machine?

    Hi,

I am trying to construct something.

I have a weight that goes up and down when it comes down it is stopped by a base. I would like to be able to push some other part of the machine when this weight comes down in the precise moment it hits the base.
The weight is quite small and the push needs also to be quite small.

Any idea how can this be done?

Are you talking about Veljko Milkovic mechanical oscillator?

It's better to wear off by working than to rust by doing nothing.

      Yes.

I want to transmit the energy of the lever going up and down.
Once I figure out how to do it I will do a prototype.

I have thought about that and so far can't figure out how to do this mechanically, but I would try to attach a big magnet to the up/down piece and make it go up and down through a big coil. The energy created then could be stored in a cap via a bridge rectifier and you could use that energy to power a basic Bedini SSG coil that pushes a magnet on a pendulum and recover most of that energy

there was a great video on youtube of a self running pendulum that used what jetijs suggested... unfortunatly the user appears to have taken it offline... shame, it was awsome.

I know Mart is working on something along these lines at the moment but I don't think it is perfected yet...

Nice to be able to put a face to the name as well Mart

That video you were talking about was based on a daftman project. Daftman posted on his forum that he contacted the people that made it to see what happened to the video. They said the machine in the video was stolen by someone who was a friend of the group that made it, and that person made the video with out them knowing. When they found out, they took the video down. The person who made the video didnt know much about the machine, or much about electronics in my opinion, he kept calling capacitors "compacitors". Daftman said he never got his to self run. All the info i found on making generator coils with magnets going back and forth through the center of them showed that is an inefficient generator design so i never finished building one to put on my 2 stage oscillator. But please dont let that stop anyone from experimenting, that is just what i found digging around in that subject. Perhaps rigging up something that makes the lever turn a wheel that turns a 3 phase alternator would be more efficient.

I was thinking that with the two stage oscillator the sudden stop of the hammer allowed energy to be transfered back into the pendulum so anything that would creat a dampening effect would slow it down faster (like the "self running" pendulum's generator coils)... but since it works well as a water pump that doesn't seem to be the case

One way I thought would be good for converting the mechanical into electrical to charge a coil would be using peizoelectricity... perhaps dismantle an electric lighter for the piezo circuit and use the hammer on the two stage oscillator to put the crystal under pressure to charge a capacitor... just a thought...

So using a magnet and coils how could I get electricity from the ups & downs of the lever?

could anyone post a design for not experienced people?

                Thanks.

a ratchet type of device allows the rotation in one direction.
a double action hand pump allows both up and down work extraction.
a pneumatic reciprocating cylinder with 4 one way valves would pump fluid
                  (air/oil) in both up/down stokes.
What kind of pneumatic cylinder? .. this video shows one,
you don't need the whatever it is that controls the air flow, just the cylinder.

Below could RETARD the mechanical oscillator. It would have to be more
like a bellows action than a compression action?
A bit weird would be a large cylinder that push and pulls fluid (air?) and having multiple tubes
connected to the large cylinder. Each tube has a magnet floating on the fluid
and coils around the tubes to generate electricity.

A Ram pump like action would multiple force ..

Using multiple forces is a KEY. The mechanical oscillator is using multiple
forces now, to lift "extra" weight. It multiples/compounds those forces.

Finding another force to convert to could compound the energy more.

                  just

                    Pendulum With Weighted Hinge

I made a lever which could work on a pendulum, although I don't know if it'll produce the effect you're thinking about.

The pendulum would be the arm without the weight. The weighted arm is fastened to a hinge which is welded close to the pendulum's fulcrum. A cam pin is slightly offset from the center, and this has a linkage which pushes a lever, to open and close the hinge. This creates torque, first in one direction, then the other. This can be adjusted by changing the ratio of the L lever's sides, since this will change how much the hinge opens.

                      thanks for your answers.

I have been busy with some exams.

I will take a look at soon as I finish them.

                      Cheers.
