Enviro Friendly Holiday Gifts

I wanted to get lots of people on my list solar cell phone chargers.

It was hard enough finding out what peoples' phone makes and models are. . .and then I found out that the one place I had been looking to buy from is out of the universal connectors.

They said they will be in again next year. I wrote (an affiliate) again saying I would like to buy several chargers IF they make the connectors available sooner but so far no reply. ( Solar Style Inc - Solar Chargers )

Does anyone know of any other places to get these?

Also this would be a nice thread to post other enviro friendly gift ideas for the holidays.

Hi Jessica,

If you have trouble getting a hold of these you may consider an alternative? You can get a similar device which plugs in and provides power and it runs off two aa batteries. You can easily get rechargeable batteries with a small solar charger (charges 2 aa's) and would be great for those times your phone goes flat. YOu can use those two batteries for many other things too. Great for camping etc.

Just a thought.

Interesting. Of course I finished my holiday shopping and then immediately got an e-mail from Solar Style that the universal connectors are now in stock

I will have to try again next year for b-days and/or the holidays.

I have seen ones that have two aa's as well.

On a side note, if you want the longest life out of Ni-Cad batteries it is important that they receive the correct charge time, otherwise they detoriate alot quicker. Alot of good quality chargers have this function built in, it might be worth asking if it has a voltage shutoff or regulator to stop from over charging if the batteries are Ni-Cad (Nickel Cadmium).

I think I get it. You use the solar charger to charge the batteries, then the other device to get a battery to power your phone, right?

Cool! I didn't understand something in the description for the solar battery charger : "It is NO DEARER than an ORDINARY NiCad charger."

Is that a typo or what does it mean?

Thats it Jess The two battery ones I have found last almost as long as the original phone sometimes, especially if your li-on/Ni-mh battery is a little sad .

I guess what they were trying to say is you'd pay that much for an ordinary, run of the mill nicad charger that PLUGS into your wall (and you continue to pay for every time you charge your batteries ). They are just trying to amplify the fact that for the same price you can charge your batteries for free, as long as the sun comes out.
