GE tried develop synthetic processes starting 1953. There was slow development but in 1987 Fujitsu Team quickened the process in plasma by discontinuous plasma quenching with a a stream of disassociated h2.

The microwave plasma was much faster than the dc and at 800 to 1300 F
this agrees with H2 assisting the fusing of methane gas Carbon onto the
wafer.
