Gaining an experience in something you move it to your subconscious mind and it becomes your second nature.
It becomes working on autopilot.

Your life is not a single process like car driving. You get new challenges over and over again during your life and overcoming all of them does not necessary can be completed on autopilot.
Some tasks require your conscious been involved all way along and require full concentration till the end of process.
Not everything is so simple, my friend!
Eye surgeon who made 1,000 of eye surgeries and who can do it "with closed eyes" never perform a surgery on autopilot.
