Look up heat retention cooking.
You heat the beans up to boiling then they cook for the next 4 hours with that built up heat because it does not escape. It is very kool.

Thanks for the tips! I have found I had to be careful when they are wet because with the high humidity they can get mold. a small fan placed in the right place helps with this.
