I don't know if anyone has tried this variation:

use a flat bifilar pancake coil, with on both ends a series capacitor.

charge one capacitor with negative voltage, and discharge it.

the capacitors can be small size, small enough to make a disruptive discharge. And the frequency should be low enough, to keep the coip from ringing. So well below the resonant frequency. the voltage would not have to be very high, I want to try 300V. This makes it possible to avoid the sparkgap, and use a TVS diode

Not sure about all of this, but I'm going to give it a try.

You will notice that there are several ways to wire up the Hairpin. I only showed one way but I have done it several ways. These are the several ways Tesla made the primary of the Tesla coil. Tesla was experimenting with this coil without the secondary when he discovered the strange effects he was getting within the single turn primary. So that is the story of the “Hairpin circuit” of Tesla. At lest the very short version. Read the Book!

Just Read a part of the book, here is a quote from it (chapter "Radiant energy" page 32):

The true Tesla circuit, very much resembles a pulse jet, where no back pressure ever stops the onrushing flow. Electrostatic charge rises to a maximum, and is discharged much more quickly. The constant application of high voltage dynamo pressure tot the circuit insures that continual successions of "charge-discharge"are obtained. It is then and only then that the Tesla Effect is observed....

I read the first chapter of gerry vassilatos book "secrets of cold war technology..." 3 times now.
Its full of very very good information, On how to release the radiant energy effects, way beyond the hairpin circuit.

I found an interview of Gerry vassilatos, and made a snipped, where he talks about an important key. The magnetically quenched spark gap.
The short unipolar impulses.

Lightbulb Radiant energy

I made a 3 part video book review of the first chapter of Gerry Vassilatos book "secrets of cold war technology". This book is several times suggested by Karl Palsness.

Its full of very good research info, about Nikola Tesla's radiant energy. How to produce it. It's very inspiring, at least to me.

I found Gerry Vassilatos interesting.

There are some explanations (fig 4) what Tesla said about the Fig 5 configuration

The article includes this Tesla quotation which is completely bizarre:

“I charged the condenser with 40,000 volts. When it was charged full, I discharged it suddenly, through a short circuit which gave me a very rapid rate of oscillation. Let us suppose that I had stored in the condenser 10 watts. Then, for such a wave there is a flux of energy of (4 x 104)2, and this is multiplied by the frequency of 100,000. You see, it may go into thousands or millions of horsepower.

such a wave, as he states basicly resembles an acoustic wave along with it's own electrical properties:
We can see a relationship between frequency and amplitude in the picture.

One example of the utilization of the wave was demonstrated in the stout bar experiment.
