My Attempts at UNLOCKING Johann Bessler MT 138 Secrets

Hello everyone, i've done a number of simulations on the toys from the toy page. They seem to me they all got 1 thing in common, and that is their ability to fold and unfold, one could see this as a change in volume.

I explain in this last video a bit more of what my impressions are to this moment:

Bessler idea - YouTube

I have looked at a lot of different ideas and the best I have come up with is in the video I linked to. You use the leverage of those scissors (shown on the left in what you posted) to move large weights with two smaller weights that are connected. The key is the two connected weights. One is above center and one below, so only one hurts your rotation but you get the leverage of the two combined. There would be 8 of the mechanisms within the wheel.

hi, thx for the explanation, i'll have to watch it a few times to understand exactly what you are saying. I'm a bit tired right now...so please don't remove the video just yet!

as far as the simulation goes, maybe, i'm still a noob at trying to simulate stuff. I did some scissor mechanism simulation, they are very tedious. Sometimes it's easier to actually build the damn stuff then to simulate it )

One thing i find interesting about scissors is that if you "axle" them and you have one weight on top and one at the bottom, same weight they will stay like that, and if the scissors are not crappy it takes little effort to get them either further from the center or closer at the same time.

it might be useful if you can show me the window mechanism, at least some product pictures.


Mind boggling how this guy was able to make something supposily so simple and so useful and 300 years later we still bang our heads to the walls trying to figure it out.

Hello, it's been a long time, had to take a break cause my head was getting bigger and bigger and i couldn't take it anymore )

Anyway, this are my first trials with that type of hinges. Work in progress but hopefully i will get there.

There is something definitely with this types of linkages, they are the key. There is a way to use them to fold and unfold the arms and get the desired effect.

Bessler Wheel

What I have come up with is that there need to be two weights of equal weight connected to each other by a solid shaft. Call them Small 1 and Small 2 or S1 and S2. When S1 is at 12:00, S2 is where the center of the clock would be. So S1 falls from 12:00 to the center of the clock. At the same time, S2 falls from center to 6:00. Notice that when the wheel is rotated 180 degrees, both weights fall back to their original positions.

Now by means of the scissor mechanisms I have been working with, S1 at 12:00 is able to push a LARGER weight Big One or B1 out from center toward the right side of the wheel, overbalancing it, while at the exact same time S2 falling from 12:00 to 6:00 is able to pull a larger weight, B2, in from the left side toward center.

If you look at JUST these four weights, After the above action takes place, you have S1 at center and B1 out on the rim at the right side. S2 is at the 6:00 position, but because B1 out on the rim is larger, it will rotate a certain amount in a clockwise direction. B2 has been pulled in from the left rim by the falling S2, so it is at center. Two at center, one far out on the right rim that is LARGE and one at the bottom that is small. This produces rotation of better than 90 degrees. The degrees of arc of rotation depend on the size and weight of the wheel as compared to the size of the weights. The degrees of arc of rotation determine how many of these "units" need to be on the wheel to achieve continuous rotation.

The actual mechanism I am using is from a basement window hinge. The wheel must be hollow with no shaft through the center. Mine is made of two large 4' diameter circles of 3/4 plywood. I took it apart to move, and one of my plywood circles is quite warped now, so will have to be replaced. They are held apart by 8 pieces of 5/8 all thread, each three feet long. From one piece of all thread to the piece directly across from it on the opposite side of the wheel is a shaft that the mechanism can slide down. At the center of that shaft is a lock nut that doesn't move, acting as a stop for the mechanism that slides along the shaft. I only got three mechanisms built, but I really liked what I saw. The all thread tended to hang up the sliding mechanism, so I need to figure out a better shaft with a center stop than all thread. Maybe just turn it on the lathe to take the threads off.

I wish I had time to devote to this in greater detail. I would offer that listening to someone like Ken Wheeler talk about what defines gravity as a ruff form of guidance because I don't think Bessler thought like most people about mechanical systems. He seems to have thought in terms of volume, space, rotation, and vectors.

I've looked a little bit at John Collins blogspot whose been working on this for the last half century. I've seen Peter Lindemann's PDF as well.

Just to make a comment on Bessler in general; the thing that strikes me is that what you've described as a change in volume is, to my mind, the correct way to approach this problem of inducing mechanical energy. In other words, when you apply changes such as a change of volume you're changing the applied physics from that of a relatively static mechanical model to that of a dynamical mechanical model. One wherein it's likely that through the variance of a dynamical model a sustainable power system is most likely to be created.


In the attached video Ken Wheeler points out weight is a malleable measure of mass. The same principles that Ken talks about effecting mass and weight in this video can largely be applied to mechanical systems. I think it's worth watching for that reason.

This video is perhaps more specific to Bessler in general. Something to think about in this video is what I'm thinking. In absorbing energy this rotational device could act as temporary flywheel storage system. A subsequent mechanically activated energy input system at the proper time of rotation in say re-creating something similar to the Bessler Wheel.
