Dakota Fanning Develops 'Push' Powers

And you thought Dakota Fanning was scary before.

According to Variety, Fanning will take one of the leads in the super-powered thriller "Push," opposite Chris Evans, Camilla Belle and Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou.

The film reportedly focuses on a group of American ex-pats in Hong Kong. Since they're also sheltering telekinetic and clairvoyant powers, the government is after them.

Paul McGuigan ("Lucky Number Slevin") is directing the film, which will be financed through Summit Entertainment, Icon Prods. and Infinity Features and based on the script by David Bourla.

Shooting will take place in Hong Kong this fall with an eye to a 2008 release, distributed by Summit.

Thirteen-year-old wunderkind Fanning previously exhibited some special gifts in the miniseries "Taken," while she was most recently seen in "Charlotte's Web" and, if you happened to be at Sundance, the controversial "Hounddog."

Evans and Hounsou also know a few things about superheroes from their work on the "Fantastic Four" films and "Constantine" respectively.

Belle is familiar from the "When a Stranger Calls" remake, as well as Roland Emmerich's upcoming "10,000 B.C."

PUSH is a sci-fi thriller that takes us into the secret world of psychic espionage. Hidden in the underworld of Hong Kong, Nick assembles a group of rogue psychics to defeat Division, the covert agency responsible for creating and experimenting with psychic drugs for decades.

Nick teams up with CASSIE HOLMES, a thirteen-year-old girl who can see the future, to track down a missing girl and a stolen suitcase that could potentionally bring the downfall of Division — the key to their mutual revenge. Combining their skills, they outwit assassins and learn about Division's latest secret weapon — a powerful and new experimental drug called R16, which could shift the tides of psychic warfare.
