The National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (NSCL) produces rare isotopes – atoms with weird numbers of neutrons that can disappear in the blink of an eye – for physicists to study in order to understand the basic workings of the universe. They do this by accelerating stable nuclei up to half the speed of light and smashing them apart. Though fast beams of the rare isotope products can be studied in many experiments, they need to be slowed down for others.

During the last decade, NSCL pioneered gas cell stopping technology where fast beams of rare isotopes were slowed to a virtual standstill through interactions with helium gas. Once slowed, however, the challenge became getting them out of the gas to study before they decayed.

“The helium gas inside the device is like honey to ions,” explains Georg Bollen, Experimental Systems Division Director for the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB), the $615 million Department of Energy project that will subsume NSCL. “The ‘honey’ is sticky and rapidly slows down the isotopes. Then you have to find a way to drag them through it and out.”

Earlier devices used an electrostatic gradient to produce a type of electric hill for the atoms to descend towards the extraction point. The technique works, but it requires a cumbersome number of electrodes with several connections and electrical circuits. So Bollen devised an electronically simpler scheme that moves the isotopes through the gas in much the same way that a wave in the ocean moves a surfer.

The technique uses a traveling electric field that creates a wave along the electrodes. Meanwhile, another electric field pushes the ions down towards the waves to ensure that they catch one, while yet another alternating electric field – this one at radio frequencies – keeps the isotopes from crashing into the floor of the device. When balanced, the system pushes the ions to a perfect level to be propelled by the travelling electric wave.

In short, unlike a surfer at Waikiki Beach, the waves are so large that it’s nearly impossible for an ion to miss its wave.

In this technique, antibodies anchored to gold electrodes on a piece of quartz crystal act like the "hooks" on the sticky side of a Velcro strap, grabbing molecules of interest as they pass by. The more molecule-sensing antibodies on the surface of the sensor, the more sensitive the QCM device's detection capabilities.

After applying 60 watts of electricity for 30 minutes to heat sodium to a plasma, a molar equivalent of oxygen was introduced. Viewed with a spectroscope, the orange band of sodium gave way to the blue of potassium, according to the formula:

Analysis of the reaction product confirmed the result and revealed an unexpected extra: a trace of gold was produced by the combination of Na, O, and K with the Cu and Fe electrodes. Several different metals were tested as electrode materials. Neon and argon atmospheres were found to enhance the yield of potassium and other elements. External heating of the reaction tube also served to ionize the sodium.

The calcium (as oxide) accumulates in scales on the cathode.

(e) For efficient dissolution in subsequent steps, the soap is ground to a fine powder,
(f) then mixed with vinegar
(g-h) while heating on a stove.
(i-j) Once all the soap is dissolved the solution forms two layers: a yellow top layer and a cloudy white/yellow bottom layer.
(k) The top layer is the fatty acid mixture (FAM). This needs to be heated at 110 oC to remove excess water and vinegar by-products.
(l) Clear yellow FAM is collected.
Step 4: Collect and Grind some Rust

(m-n) Rust was scraped off of rusted metals and was ground to a fine powder.
Step 5:Cook/grow your own magnetite crystals

(o) FAM and rust were mixed.
(p-q) Mixture was heated for 2 hours at below and near boiling temperatures. The temperature was measured using a standard mercury thermometer.
(r-s) Magnetite (black) began to form.
Step 6: Verify your Magnetite Crystals

(t) TEM micrograph was obtained after magnetic separation in chloroform. Scale bar is 50 nm.

That was the original point of looking at superconductivity -- was with the intent to be able to build it. So, I've been looking a little bit at silicon recently, as that is very easily obtainable for me near the beach.

Why is silicone interesting? Because we are made of carbon. Carbon is one half octave away from silicone.

Silicon is used in all of our modern day transistors and microprocessors. Silicon is also an element which is quite common around the world. Powerme left a vauge process for refining beach sand into high purity silicon, but I think I understand it. Hooking up HHO torch soon, so I will try this method of refining.

Carbon, is also the element which crystalizes into diamond -- the crystaline structure also becomming superconductive after doping with 3% boron. Boron comes just before carbon on Russell's table.

What does this tell me? Look at russell's charts. We are playing very similar atomic chords when we are cooling the silicone to superconductivity.

You know how you can play the same note on a piano, and shift one octave up? It sounds higher up, but you are still playing the same "note". I imagine that supeconductivity is a "note" that may be acheived in a vaiety of ways.

With that, I would also like to point out that silcon, having a similar cubic crystal to carbon. I am curently wondering if the shape of the crystal being formed has a link to superconductivity.

Can you elaborate a little more on M-state water and "quantum water"? I do not like to ask too many questions without sharing my understanding, to make sure we are on the same page.

I am under the impression that water (the fractal antenna) briefly possesses a structure which induces very small windows of "superconductivity" near the center contracting axis of the vortex shape. I am under this impression that the magnets might "knock" the little superconductors out of position -- impregnating the water with a more electric property.

This has at least been supported by my experience with using one of these simple devices.

Seeing as how our nervous system would become more sensitized after consuming this type of water, I beleive that my body would give me a "good" response (the water tastes sweeter) when I drink it.

It seems to make moss, and grass grow very vigorously (resilient to drought), and greener than the other, faucet-watered areas.

The biofilms were created by incubating the bacteria for seven days. The biofilms were around 25 micrometres thick and consisted of 17 different layers of bacteria. Each one was treated for five minutes with the plasma flashlight and then analysed to see how much of the bacteria survived.

Results showed that the plasma not only inactivated the top layer of cells, but penetrated deep into the very bottom of the layers to kill the bacteria.

Tourmaline Composition, Crystallization & Structure

Composition. A complex silicate of boron and aluminum, containing varying amounts of ferrous iron, magnesium, manganese, calcium, sodium, potassium, lithium, hydroxyl and fluorine.

Crystallization. Hexagonal-rhombohedral; hemimorphic. Crystals usually prismatic, vertically striated. A triangular prism, with three faces, prominent, which with the tendency of the prism faces to be vertically striated and to round into each other gives the crystals usually a cross section like a sphericaltriangle. Crystals are commonly terminated by base and low positive and negative rhombohedrons; sometimes scalenohedrons are present When the crystals are doubly terminated they usually show different forms at the opposite ends of the vertical axis (homomorphism).

Structure. Usually in crystals. Sometimes massive compact; also coarse to fine columnar, either radiating or parallel.

Physical Properties. Vitreous to resinous luster. Color varied, depending upon the composition. Common tourmaline with much iron is black, sometimes brown. More rarely light colored in fine shades of red, pink, green, blue, yellow, etc. Rarely white or colorless. A single crystal may show several different colors either arranged in concentric bands about the center of the crystal or in transverse layers along its length. Strongly pyroelectric; i.e., when cooling from being heated to about 100° C. it develops positive electricity at one end of the crystal and negative at the other, which enables the crystal to attract and hold bits of paper, ete. Strongly diachronic; Le., light traversing the crystal in one direction may be of quite a different color or shade of color from that traversing the crystal in a direction at right angles to the first. H. = 7-7.5; G. = 2.98-3.2.

Tests. To be recognized usually by the characteristic rounded triangular cross section of the crystals; absence of prismatic cleavage, coal-like fracture of black variety.

Occurrence. Tourmalinc is one of the most common and characteristic minerals formed by pneumatolytic action. That is, it is a mineral that has been formed at high temperatures and pressures through the agency of vapors carrying boron, fluorine, ete. It is found, there fore, commonly as an accessory mineral in pegmatite veins, 01' dikes, occurring with granite intrusions. Associated with the ordinary minerals of granite pegmatite, orthoclase, albite, quartz and muscovite; also with lepidolite, beryl, apatite, fluorite, ete.

Found also as an accessory mineral in metamorphie roeks, such as gneisses, schists and crystalline limestones.

The black tourmaline is of widespread occurrence as an accessory mineral in metamorphie rock. The light colored gem varieties are found in the pegmatite dikes. Famous localities for the occurrence of the gem tourmalines are the island of Elba; in the state of Minas Geraes, Brazil; Ural Mountains near Ekaterinburg; Madagasear; Paris and Auburn, Maine Chesterfield, Massachusetts; Haddam Neck, Connecticut; Mesa Grande, Pala, Rincon and Ramona in San Diego County, California. Brown crystals are found near Gouverneur, New York and fine black crystals at Pierrepont, New York.
