Nobel laureate Dr. Francis Crick who posits an extraterrestrial origin for life on Earth, is not alone in this viewpoint within the scientific community. The same year that Life Itself was published (1981), Sir Fred Hoyle authored Life from Space, in which he took essentially the same position. In fact, in an article that year in Nature, he wrote:

"The likelihood of the formation of life from inanimate mater is one to a number with 40,000 noughts after it.... It is big enough to bury Darwin and the whole theory of evolution. This is another article that I posted some months ago on the forum which relates to the research that Prof Sam Chung found.

I also did some sleuthing at that time to try & verify the existence of Prof Chung as it was difficult to to find any information about him. I finally found him mentioned under cytogenetics - Human X chromosome inactivation - Samuel C. Chang, Carolyn J. Brown (Contents -Genetics)
