  • Animated gifs and avatars

I was just wondering why animated avatars aren't allowed? I have one which is resized to 80x80 and is 9kB in size so no additional bandwidth load is required.

I mean if somebody simply forgot to turn on this function of vB forum it's done like this
Admin CP --> Usergroups --> Usergroup Manager

Then choose Go beside the Usergroup you wish to be able to upload animated gif's and change Can Upload Animated GIF to Yes. You can do the same for profile pictures if you want. The option is there for Avatars and Profile Pictures. Be sure to choose the right one
It's not so important but small details can sometimes make a man happy.

    animated gif avatar

    Hi Lighty,

I think we have to ask Henrii! lol

He has an animated gif and it worked for him. My genie avatar I used before was supposed to be animated but it didn't work. If Henrii's works, that means it is enabled. I'll see what I can find if you don't find it first. Maybe see what his file type is.
    Sincerely,
    Aaron Murakami

OK, I found what went wrong the first time. I resized animated avatar to 80x80 while trying to keep appropriate aspect ratio. Animated gif I got was 81x80 (in order to keep aspect ration same as the original) and vB refused to animate it. All I can say is -wow, what a nitpicking forum it is!

Anyway if somebody needs resizing animated gifs or do any other manipulation one can use free online tools at GIFWorks.com! Free Online GIF Tools

BTW- when resizing uncheck "Keep aspect ratio" (or whatever they call that option, I don't remember).

Yes, thank you Aaron I was the first one on this forum to have an animated avatar!
And on another forum where someone actually got somehow jealous, he called my avatar some awful name, obviously because my avatar was an eye catching and hypnotic one

        @ lighty

You sure did make an animated avatar, huh.

        Cheers!
        Henrii

          @Henrii

In fact I didn't make this avatar, I found it years ago in one of the avatar repositories on the net. It just catch my eye immediately and I had to use it here since I love it and it seems pertinent to this forum somehow.

Your avatar is eye catching also and I don't understand why anybody would criticize other people avatars if they're not offensive in some way. Don't mind simple minded fools.

            Hooray!

            Hello lighty,

I did base my avatar on rainbow and sacred geometry. I thought an avatar that would carry my name and also to be my signature when I go on different forums.

            Yey, we are now two!
