  • Counterfeit Transistors on ebay

Sorry if this has been mentioned before. I have had a nightmare getting hold of legit transistors on ebay. I started this post so that we can list ebayers that supply this rubbish. The BD140 supplied is supposed to handle 1A of current. At 12v 200ma, it starts to smoke. The BD139's supplied are the real deal and don't even get hot at 200ma.

    Sellers to watch out for:

    tubeshunter - mps8099 and mps8599
bobsbitsbox - 100 various transistor multi pack. Most fake but some original.

One of the ways to tell is the metal texture on the legs. If the metal is glossy like chrome then it is more than likely a fake. All of my originals have a mat finish on all metal surfaces. I also have some (BD140) where the plastic is glossy and no metal back plate (i have the originals and they are very different)

    So guy's beware!

Yes, this was brought to attention by Rick F. couple years ago, specifically about fake MJL's on eBay. Some deals are good but there are fakes and you can usually tell by the look. Good transistor tester would show the difference as well.
    Thanks for starting this topic
