  • Use of wind turbine on Car Tops

    I have always wondered what would be the actual output of the wind turbine, if we put it on top of the car to generate electric car batteries. After many debates from professors and colleagues, it seams like the its a major no no in the industry specially on the drag portion. I do understand drag is important, but
    my intention of having wind turbine is not go absolute as giving 100% back the
    energy but somewhat about 40 ~ 50% while driving, to give an actual boost.

    After reading the few thread regarding alternate shape cars with good aerodynamics style, makes me wonder, if such wind turbine maybe a good
    option as well?

    We already have seen solar's being set-up on the top of the roof, then why not turbine themselves. I am not a big fan of 3 arc blade wind turbines, so I presumably think vertical based turbine might give a better shaft, also how about if we cover the down portion of the vertical turbine so to speak we
    don't have a cancellation of air force coming towards the turbine? Do you think that's logical?

    Sorry I am not good in mechanics neither I am a master in aerodynamics, but I just simply thought as this might be a good option, so therefore if anyone
    would like to input their concerns, I will really appreciate it.

    I remember reading years ago that Mark Goldes, a long-time free energy inventor / marketeer / writer (now with a company called Chava who has several FE techs they are developing) got his start in FE back in the 80's or early 90's doing just that, in Detroit... They had hybrid cars with turbines powered by wind resistance on the roofs and used to run them up and down I-70 doing efficiency tests. I am guessing it didn't work out in the end, but i'm not really sure what the result was.

    Considering how badly mileage is affected by wind resistance, it would be pretty hard to make it pay i think.

      IMO Youd be better off working on regenerative braking, or additional alternators or generators etc. that dont hinder forward movement.
