  • UltraCapacitor Instead Of Battery

I recently had purchased an ultracapacitor for replacing my cars battery.

The 58 Farad 16 volt unit was installed with a make shift adapter to fit the battery cable connectors.

The unit functions well. The car had very good engine response and pick up when the gas pedal was employed.

The unit discharged after ten minutes from other car systems using current.

No problem, the unit recharged from a battery or charger in a couple of minutes.

The Lady of the house did not like my idea.

Nothing as bad as a superstitious woman.

My next project is to find a larger capacitance unit to permanently install.

For now, I have one half of a 30 volt power supply for my Bedini.

how is it getting its power or charge?do u plug it in your 240v receptacle?

Lasersaber has been working with caps running his car for a few years. has a lot of good info on his utube sight

If those connectors short when the caps are charged, you will have a nasty event.

            everyone convinced me,
looking at what others have set up, some are over currenting the caps.
I plan on using 12 of these
            BCAP0310 P270 T10 Maxwell Technologies Inc. | Capacitors | DigiKey
should give me 500A without going over the maximum specification
and for balancing, going to use 6 relays that connect off a series resistor set, going to connect the relay inputs to the ignition of the car so that no self discharge happens when the car is not running. should give me the lowest possible drain when not in use. just seems like a better system than the more pricey and complex semiconductor path

I am so tired of replacing lead acid batteries,
after Exide bought the other companies and then dropped the quality, they just don't last nearly as long as they use to. (and the other batteries not by them or a company they own is getting hard to find)
even if the cap. starting system is double the cost of the lead acid, it will be well worth it.

stop over complicating things with wordy posts. my voltage issue in my other thread couldve been solved with a couple lines of text.. this thread is now confusing because many want to act like they know something
