  • Crystal Radio Initiative

This will serve as a support thread for anyone who is interested in exploring the unconventional side of Crystal Radios - and for anyone who wants to take up Eric Dollard's challenge of lighting bulbs from a Tesla style crystal radio.

We recently filmed a basic presentation with Eric explaining more about the Crystal Radio Initiative and we have compiled the posts from Energetic Forum that relate to this challenge.

      Aaron,
Thanks for that! The video is great.

If I may make a request, it would be excellent to have a video of Eric working through the math for designing one of these coils, like a proper engineering lecture.

Also, I'm looking through the book now, and it looks like page 20 has something cut off at the bottom which is probably important.

The book is very useful over all though.

I agree on the coil calculations. There are some spreadsheets avail to do it automatically by someone here that has already done all of this. They're looking for it.

I'll check out pg 20. Some images got laid on top of each other - microsoft word issue.

            Coil structure

Hi, I'm starting to get into the CRI. What do you think about using a drum shell as primary and secondary coil structure?
drum shell available size: 8,10,13,14,16,18,20,22 inches. With a 14/16 inches drum shell you are in the 2000 kc/sec neighbourhood.

I though about using these shells and first make spirals wire seats to achieve maximun symetry and equal wire gaps. After that i could do some material removal to expose the wires to the air. See inserted image. Maybe its not worth it to get coil symetry and gap perfect?

That's potentially a good idea, but also possibly more effort than building from scratch and using wooden dowels when it comes to removing the material (accurately). I suppose it depends on what tools you have and your woodworking experience/skills. Also the downside is you can't choose the exact frequency.

Thank you dR-Green for the reply. I`m trying to get some equipment; will build those coils.. (not sure of the building method yet) and then i`ll post my progress with a LOT of questions. Being a beginner with no contaminated preconceptions makes me a good match for the CRI.. but I see slow progress in my project after looking at your work and others. I`m aware of the frequency issue for the CRI.. but my ultimate goal would be the TMT. I`ll do my best to get a single structured coil for now.

                cheers!!

Working on some stuff with Eric right now. The book is corrected page 20 & 21. V1.01 available at the same download link as the original book.

                    Greetings,
A video that shows a friendly place. It might be location that makes a difference in sending and receiving airwaves.
The solitude looks amazing the location was Bosque Park south of Albuquerque New Mexico. The equipment differs from what Dollard would use it delivers 10W. The person might just have a knack for finding good earth grounding or something. Getting reception in remote friendly location in the day time then going around the world to France accomplishing both send and receive with good clarity is an astonishing feat. Difficult to believe.

That does not appear to be a telluric system. The person in the video is using a wire laid on the ground as a counterpoise. There is not really any ground connection: any coupling to the ground is only capacitative.

If you see any videos showing a telluric system used for amateur radio then that would be very interesting.
