  • Question on the Four Quadrant theory

    Hi energetic forum,

I'm learning about the nature of electricity and electric engineering in general, and I can't seem to wrap my head around the Four Quadrant theory.

I understand that there are four different phases (production, consumption, etc.), but I don't understand when those four phases occur in a practical sense.

For example, if you take the tesla synchronous motor (fig 197 in the book) and you rotate the permanent magnet. What happens then? Is an E.M.F. and a displacement current created in phase 1? Where to and what is returned in phase 2? Are the E.M.F. and displacement current then destroyed in phase 3? And so on...

If someone could help me out with this, that would be great!
Working...
