  • Problem with reply posts, site issues

In the Eric Dollard thread pages won't load and replies are hidden, massive delays in site response as well. had to re-post, the thread shows a new page but it won't load and my post is not viewable ???

frequent time-outs and database errors as well.

    Second That!

    I share your frustration Madhatter!

As I've had the exact same issues for quite some time now. Pages loading incredibly slowly or not loading at all, frequent "database errors" (white page of death), and the edit function (for posts) is broken (edits do not save when applied)!

The host server must be overloaded or under powered, in either case it makes navigating and participating on this site a bothersome task!

    Regards,
    Garrett M

Hi Guys, Third that, although I have additional issues where i need to sign in
and out multiple times, I cleared my browsing data and the issue did disappear
for a while but it still remains.

As for the Edits you must use the "advanced" option of edit to make it stick,
unless you are very quick. If you click on "Edit" then on "advanced" there is
also an option above the text window to delete posts. This allows us to
delete our own double posts. I always use "advanced edit".

This site has been very active for quite some time so I'm not surprised if there
are some hardware issues, i mean all these posts cannot add up for ever at
some point data would need to be compressed or something.

I often wondered what would happen if a site like this continued for 20 Years.
How much hard drive space and back up hardware is needed.

Anyway, I have had similar database errors on other sites. Being in Australia
I figured the slowing of the internet could have something to do with ISP
filtering or something silly, time out's ect. I only expect it to get worse.

We are getting all new cable infrastructure here, but I fear the capacity will
be nullified because rather than just increase speed and keep costs the same.
they will probably increase speed and data usage allocations and keep the
costs the same so usage will just go up to meet the capability of the systems.

The ISP's try to push wireless broadband but it is lossy and slow and drops
      out in some places.

Good luck guys. The stored data is ever increasing I don't see how everything
can be kept for ever. That just doesn't make sense to me. Can they really
      store unlimited data for ever.

      Happy holidays.

Last 6-9months there have been problems for me

Yes, data base errors are very frequent, I think it is depending on the number of people that are looking at information all at one time. I noticed that with the UFO thread there were nearly 300 looking at one time and of those 300 only 40 or so were members.

Also I am not sure of virus filtering here, as I seem to get infected by pushing types when accessing certain threads it seems.

          forum speed

This forum is definitely virus free.

There could be some slowing down for the server's drives to access the data with so many requests. But I have been on forums that are way bigger that are operating at normal speed - maybe they have a better setup.

When someone comes to the forum, all that data isn't automatically loaded.
It is all dynamic so data is only loaded when someone clicks a link to a thread of a certain topic, etc... The majority of traffic goes to the most popular threads so it isn't like it is accessing a wide range of info all at the same time.

I don't know - I can ask. I can see on my side there is also some hesitation for a couple seconds before it pulls up a thread, etc... so it isn't as quick as it was before. I think I know what it is - I'll check it out and if it isn't that, there is someone I can talk to about this.
          Sincerely,
          Aaron Murakami

WTH! page 19 on the dollard thread seems to exist in some blackhole parallel universe. shows 19 pages, won't load page 19, default forces to page 18. shows recent poster on main page but won't load correctly.
things like this make it beyond frustrating in trying to share information.

Page 19 is OK for me, too.

There are times when the forum response is notably sluggish, though.
