Art of Breathing & Cultivating Qi

For the last 13 years, I have been practicing various breathing methods to develop not only full lung capacity but also to cultivate Qi (life force energy) to a high potential.

No matter what breathing method you use, there are a few things you can incorporate into almost any method to increase the effectiveness of the energetic part of breathing.

A few things will be referenced.

The DAN TIEN in Chinese is the "Sea of Qi", which is the main quantum potential reservoir located about 3-4 finger widths below the belly button and inwards sitting in front of the spine. About 80% of the life force reserves sit there and about 20% is potentiating the "electrical" activity of the body.

LAO GONG points on the palm are known as the "Hard Working Points". You can find yours by making a fist and put finger from your other hand where the middle and ring finger nails are touching the palm. These points are on both palms and is the main energy point on the hand. There is also a minor chakra there as there are other minor chakra points at the knees, elbows, ankles and feet, etc...

QI (pronounded CHEE) is the Chinese word for spirit or the life force energy. Japanese is Ki, Indian is Prana, in Christian thought it is the "Breath of Life" from God. There are many names for this life force potential. It it composed of virtual photon potential, which is a quantum potential that fills all time/space. Conscious intention can and does direct the movement of this potential.

The below exercise should be done daily 1-3 times per day for 3 months straight without moving on. The purpose is to channel QI in one direction filling and expanding the capacity of the DAN TIEN. It is like installing a larger energy engine in your body and this will also benefit your ability to project stronger thoughts for manifestation.

1. Before starting, get into a comfortable sitting or standing position.

2. Keep the mouth closed on this part. Take the left index finger and plug the left nostril. Inhale into the right nostril while visualizing that you are breathing in pure white light and breath this pure white light down your chest, past your belly button and into the DAN TIEN. While keeping the left nostril closed breath the white light out of the right nostril. Do this 8 times. Now take the right index finger and plug the right nostril. Visualize breathing in white light into the left nostril to the DAN TIEN and back out 8 times.

3. Swirl the tongue clockwise about 40 times making sure the tongue rubs the roof of the mouth vigorously. Then swirl the tongue about 40 times counterclockwise doing the same.

4. Rub the LAO GONG points vigorously for 30 seconds to a minute to generate good heat.

5. If you are a woman, place your right palm and its LAO GONG point directly under the belly button 3-4 finger widths below. Place the left LAO GONG point on top of the right hand. For men, place the left on the belly and the right on top of the left.

6. Every time you breathe in through the nose, make sure the mouth is closed and the tip of the tongue is firmly pressing on the roof of the mouth. Breath in pure white light into the nose and down to the DAN TIEN. Focus on making this a long, slow, deep in breath. Do whatever is comfortable and don't strain.

7. Every time you breath out, drop your tongue and slightly open your lips and blow the air out slowly so that a feather wouldn't even move from your out breath. After the full in breath, drop the tongue and simply blow the air out slowly without visualizing anything leaving the DAN TIEN.

Continue to do the #6 and #7 in and out breathing with this method only focusing on channeling pure white light into the DAN TIEN but nothing leaving the DAN TIEN. Do this 1-3 times daily. Especially, do this while laying on the back and going to sleep.

You can picture the DAN TIEN expanding and becoming brighter and brighter with pure white light. Do not intend for the potential to move anywhere because it can fizzle it all out if it isn't cultivated to a high enough capacity yet and you will feel more drained than without doing this exercise. It knows where to go by itself so just let it do it's own thing.

After about 90 days, then it is time to move on to the Small Universe Breathing for about 90 days and then the Large Universe Breathing from then on.

hi Aaron,

hey,
ok i did see these breathing execises on PI, and have simply been practicing breathing, which has improved for me for sure, and gratefully. I have struggled with the breathing from time to time cuz of all the emotional stirring from paths (yes good) and was having alot of pain that made it hard to breath deep, but since Grace has been doing her CEM on me i am able to breath deep again...thanks Gracie
my question is...which do we start with first? # 1? or all at different times of the day?
i thought i read the same techniques somewhere on PI also but with simply the tongue pressed against the roof of the mouth...not specifying the tip of the tongue...and with the hands just one on top of the other, of course depending whether you are male or female....does it matter about exact technique? and am i losing my mind and getting things from what i read...the way i want to get them? ya i know i'm not losing my mind, but i swear thats the info i came across.
will we know when it is time to move on, or is it strictly three times a day for three months..with no room to improvise? are these guidlines for people who don't struggle with the breathing? or consistancy, or remembering?
thank you Aaron...glad for the info...peace and gratitude...Adrienne

hey Aaron,

What is Small Universe Breathing and Large Universe Breathing?

I'm still doing parts 6 and 7 and enjoying it immensely, and I'm not in any hurry to move on. Just curious... And, outside of the time frame, are there any physical, emotional, energetic, or other signposts that I can watch for to know that I'm ready for more?

time for breathing exercise

Hi Adrienne,

These breathing exercises can be done as few or as many times as you want through the day. Actually, they can be done continuously as far as the breathing in light one way. Driving, going to sleep, washing dishes, watching tv, surfing the net and of course at times set aside specifically for the exercises.

I apologize for not responding earlier, this thread was marked as read but I don't recall reading these new messages yet.

Thumbs up Integrated into my Workout!

Hi Aaron,

I practice these wonderful breathing exercises at least once a day, usually before my meditation and often before going to sleep, but I have recently incorporated parts 6 and 7 into my workouts at the gym.... Now, between my reps, when I do the weight machines, I take about two extra minutes and really focus on that white light as I breathe in and this makes the whole workout experience even more satisfying for me! Thanks again, Aaron!

With Much Love and Gratitude,

Pamela

small universe & large universe

Hi Jamie,

The small universe breathing or the microcosmic orbit is a breathing method that allows anyone to start deliberately circulating the build up qi in the body utilizing the governing and conception vessels. For more details on these, search google for (du and ren vessels governing conception).

The attached pic with thumbnail below shows the small universe pathway. The pic isn't much bigger than the thumbnail Only simple pic I could find of it.

When tongue is at roof of mouth and there is the in breath brining qi go the lower abdomen, on the outbreath, drop tongue, slowly blow air out mouth and visualize the qi moving downwards toward the anus, straight up the spine, over the head and down to the roof of the mouth...all on one outbreath. That is all one in and out breath.

repeat.

That is the "small universe" breathing. It can get more complex with all the theoretical explanations of what is happening but cultivating the qi in the dan tien first for a while is crucial or the qi will just fizzle out and be very weak through the system.

An enhancement of this is on the outbreath when dropping the tongue, contract the anus and that connects strongly the point down there. On the in breath relax anus and reconnect tongue to the roof of the mouth. etc...

Both switches at the top and bottom are 180 degrees out of phase from each other. When one is on the other is off and visa versa.

This system is strangely similar to the Bedini "free energy' battery chargers with the same style switching mechanism. Our body and these energy systems are all open systems.

The large universe is just a more complex pathway for the energy to be directed. If I can find a good pic, I'll post it here if not, I'll explain it here.

workout breathing

Hi Pamela,

That is awesome you are applying these methods because they really are powerful. I'm excited to see you in Vegas and if you remind me, I'll show you the kidney deep bend exercise. It is absolutely powerful. Also, I'll be sharing another exercise method that will be different for every single person
It is what unlocked and unleashed 9 full blown kundalini releases for me. At least, it was the precursor to them all but I didn't learn that until later.

Hi, thanks for this I stumbled across it yesterday, and had a go yesterday. I did feel an improvement in myself. However, today I was anxiously waiting for an important phone call and as I waited I tried the exercises as best as I could remember them and to my delight I felt great peace, the phone rang not lot after and we had a wonderful chat! Thanks so much

Bring The Good Stuff

Hi Aaron,

I am gald I found your thread

The kidney deep bend exercise must that powerful to awake the kundalini. I like to more of your exercise if you prefer to post.

Do you know the knowledge/technique of Nei Kung? The books that you had mentioned on Electric Fluid Guy at Amazon, seandentry doesn't recommend them because the author seem to lack knowledge in this subject, because he didn't finish the training? Or these books may suffice for a beginner to practice Nei Kung. But I have read that it is dangerous to practice Nei Kung if the teacher isn't competent.

Like Mantak Chia who have/had several law suits for stealing intellectual property and teaching to his students that apparently have experienced energy blockage

zi fa dong gong

Hi Henrii,

My secret to the kundalini release for me was very dedicated practice of zi fa dong gong and that was practiced before I ever knew it was something other people knew about. I was inspired by direct connection to source. It is a very profound exercise.

With neigung, I believe daoist qigong methods are the most powerful...just a personal belief. A good basic book on it is "qigong empowerment" by Liang & Wu. There is a section on taoist qigong.

An 18th generation master is Wang Liping and there is a book called Opening the Dragon Gate - The Making of a Modern Taoist Wizard, I was recently introduced to and is about Liping.

Amazon.com: Opening the Dragon Gate: The Making of a Modern Taoist Wizard: Books: Kaiguo Chen

I'd recommend working with a qigong master who can actually demonstrate abilities. The concept that they don't want to show off, etc... in my opinion is justification for revealing they have not achieved high level so someone who can demonstrate something would be a teacher I would study with.

Spark of Genius

Aaron,

You must be intuitive having to come up with that practice you haven't knew.

Thanks for your recommendation. And I do agree a master should have the ability, and show some of his abilities to his students but not publicly bragging about it.

Breathing exercises

Hi Christine,

You can do it for 10-30 minutes a day. If doing this when going to bed until falling asleep, this is fine too and is very relaxing at the same time.

Three months practice for this without trying to circulate the qi is recommended.

Great post Aaron! Very helpful for healing.
I have found that the tongue can be automatically put in the place by pronouncing SAT for inbreathe and NAM for outbreathe. like this:

saaaaaaaaaat - naaaaaaammmmmmmmmm

I had read this somewhere, thought it might be helpful.

complementary exercise to the breathing exercises

Hi Christine,

I'll post something very soon that is a profound complementary process that goes hand in hand with these breathing exercises. I think you'll find them very useful.

It will first be in an article in either the PATHS or ESM newsletter, then I'll post it in the forum under a new thread.

Hi I'm new to this forum and joined because I saw this post and had a question even though this post is old. When I started doing these excersises about a week ago, I started rubbing the laogong point and shortly after I got a perrty bad headache and felt a bit sick to my stomach. Also since starting this practice, I've alway had poor circulation in my fingers and they always seem to be cold but now they aren't and it's even been noticed by my girlfriend. Does any one have any insight into all this?

Would submerging yourself in a pool help? Maybe you shouldn't suppose to point your palm with finger and instead use left palm meet right palm (point your finger away from your body)?

I am a newbie with this kind of breathing. but really concern if it may have bad effect on your health.

Please mention the environment where you did the excercise. Facing what direction, existence of metal, electronics, water source, what is under you and what is above you. Maybe it is the environment that cause it, not from yourself.

Wonder if the practice of Tantra has been doing this in some level, when i could practice some Tantra it was pretty profound from breathing...Thanks a lot man for all this, i guess i saw some HEALING similarities with Tantra, but i guess thats combining the emotions with the breathing practice

It all starts with the breathing. Remember also that qi is all around us, not just in the air we breath in, and can be gathered endlessly as white light even with each step we take, being mindful of the energetic contact with the ground beneath you as a conduit for qi just like air coming into the lungs, just as it can be gathered through the hands, top of the head and many other points on our physical bodies.

All this talk of qi gong and the tao lately... how interesting.
