Seems that the Fe atom contained within the Hemoglobin is 'sequestered'. Since Hemoglobin without Fe is not functional (zero O2 transport), the patient begins to asphyxiate (almost like altitude sickness). The dislocated Fe forms 'Porphyrin'. Intense poisoning of lung tissue occurs due to inability of CO2>O2 exchange leading to inflammation/ground glass appearance in the lungs. One step towards understanding this virus could be in finding an explanation for this fact that I cannot really explain:
In Germany, there are currently 127,854 confirmed cases in a population of about 84 million (0.15%), while in Thailand there are currently 2,551 confirmed cases in a population of about 67 million (0.004%).
Take into account that roughly 27% of the Thai population is spread over 2 cities (Bangkok and Chiang Mai), so especially in Bangkok, you would expect a real explosion of new cases. Also, German people are much more strict and precise whereas the Thai are more "happy-go-lucky" type of people.
It should spread like wildfire here in Thailand, but it doesn't. Now some of you would probably say, it is a matter of tests that are not available here, but I can tell you first hand that the hospitals here in the countryside claim to have 1 or 2 cases, which is easy to verify because everybody knows everybody. So there really aren't many cases here.
In neighbouring countries, the numbers are also very low with the exception of Malaysia (4,648 cases on a population of 32 million = 0.015%, still low, but 4 times higher than Thailand)

As I have said, I cannot explain this but there is one thing, these countries have known malaria for many generations and HCQ, a malaria medicine, appears to help fight the virus.... (?)
