Has anyone tried building one of these Wind Belt Generators?

    Looks like fun!

      wind belt

I saw that on Peswiki a while back and thought it was very interesting and simple!

I couldn't get away with putting a 500 watt wind generator up on a pole in my backyard because there are city ordinances about it. BUT, if some of these were mounted across the back of my roof, nobody would even know they're there and even if they did, they wouldn't know what they are.

I get good air flow over my roof and in the garage ceiling is an air vent with a wind powered spinner...that things gets going so fast sometimes, I think it is going to fall apart! This wind belt might be the simple answer to harnessing some of that.

Has anyone here tried to make one?
      Sincerely,
      Aaron Murakami

Right on. I've been thinking about putting some of these on the exhaust vent of my dryer and furnace. Maybe even over my central air unit. They could even be setup in roof racks on cars (without looking too odd). Just anywhere there is airflow.

Turbines don't scale down. I wonder if Windbelts can scale up. Does anyone see a problem with doubling output by adding a second magnet/coils setup on the other end of the band? I suppose it would dampen the vibration slightly, but I would think it would work...

I found the website from Shaw and Co. It looks like they're thinking of trying to scale. Maybe more than I envisioned. Check out the picture on the bottom of this page from their site. They might build one between two hills/mountains.

However, it doesn't say if it is more or less efficient at this scale than a typical turbine generator. I bet it is a lot less expensive though!

              Thanks for posting that link!

Good question on doubling the output. I got a feeling that if they aren't doing it, it's because they've already tried it and it didn't work out. Never hurts to prove it for yourself though.

Here is a YouTube video of someone using hard drive components for the generator: YouTube - windbelt

That mountaintop concept looks cool! I just wonder if something that big would really be necessary.

Awesome, so lets mount some of these on/in our cars and get our boosters powered by them!
