I love this, I had just posted this on facebook about three days ago. It's about time we stop spending billions of tax payer money on a pointless "war".

        marijuana decriminalization and legalization

Looking for cspan today and came across this show:
To the Contrary . Home | PBS
        It's an all-women news show/discussion/interview

To The Contrary Podcast, December 11, 2009 (mp3 podcast)
TTC panelists discuss: a new report that finds women have stalled when it comes to attaining seats on corporate boards; the Congressional Black Caucus' criticism that President Obama is not doing enough to aid low-income African Americans; and a conservative mother who advocates for marijuana legalization. The panelists are: (in order of opening question response) Former Canadian Prime Minister Kim Campbell; Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC); Conservative Commentator Tara Setmayer; and The American Prospect's Ann Friedman.

I only saw about 10 minutes but they all seem to be fairly open to
at least starting with decriminalization. There are about 850,000 people
in us prisons for marijuana if I got that # right from the show.

I think they should clear them out for crimes
with victims...banking executives and a few others come to mind,
        seriously.

Here in Spokane, in several of the weekly papers like nickel nik and the
exchange, there are regular medical marijuana display ads for clinics
on the front page every single week,
getting marijuana prescriptions, etc... they seem to be operating just
fine and there are no problems that have been brought to town by
this - as expected, there shouldn't be.

Obama did recommend that there shouldn't be too much focus on
targeting marijuana to conserve some financial resources that are better
        spent elsewhere.

It would be cheap, safe, non-addictive alternative to a lot
        of dangerous conventional meds.

Here is a long list of the myths about marijuana.
        Myths and Facts About Marijuana

I want to see complete legalization of industrial hemp in this country
because it is literally a multi-billion dollar industry that would generate
countless jobs, revenue, etc... if rope and many other vinyl (petroleum
based) products that are made today were replaced by hemp, it would
reduce the amount of petroleum needed by our country. I don't know
what % of our petroleum consumption is in synthetic materials
compared to energy applications gas/diesel/etc... but it has to be
        pretty substantial.

          Like Hydrogen hard to tax

Pot is to pharma as hydrogen is to energy...
          Hard to tax.
Once they figure a good way to cash in it will be available and legal everywhere.

            marijuana tax

I think one of the main problems are companies like dupont, etc...
that make billions and billions in profits from synthetics that are used
in ropes, textiles, etc.... their patents are paid royalties around the
globe for ages. I believe they also helped to criminalize it to begin
with to replace hemp made goods with their synthetics. Them and
the pharmaceuticals spend a fortune to keep it illegal.

For many years, many states have had cannabis tax stamps that people
could pay for when it was totally illegal. As long as taxes are paid on it,
there usually isn't much issue as you say...taxes. The states have been
thinking ahead on this for years! lol

But for anyone that needs to grow it at home for medicinal use,
they can probably charge for annual permits. It would be a small
revenue generator compared to a tax on it by volume of production.

California actually saved about 3/4 billion dollars by legalizing pot for
            medicinal use.
            Sincerely,
            Aaron Murakami

I still find it laughable that it's illegal. Not exactly a laugh of hysterics but laughing at the stupidity of so many lies being spread and how so few can see through the lies. It really gets me inside to see so many people being dislead and lied to.

"The Emperor Wears No Clothes" by Jack Herer is a great book describing so much about how it becam illegal. If I recall correctly it was a combination of things which made a law against a plant. I do think it was dupont supplying the fuel to it. Greed.

Not to mention but it's been studied and found to cure cancers. It MUST be eaten to cure cancers though. Combine it with a fat/butter and eating it is one way. The butter will last forever in the fridge and one can just take a tsp or TBS or however much is needed on a daily basis until the conditions improve. It kindof makes me think, hemp does have a flowering top of bud and seeds. So you have the curing cbd's and cbn's, but you would also have the fat from the seeds. So I've always wondered if from a hemp feild one could take the flowering top full of seeds and chew on it.

And all the lies about it. It just amazes me. My favorite one is how it makes you stupid. I can attest to actually taking two IQ tests. One long before I had ever tried mj and one sometime after smoking mj for a period of time. My IQ actually went up 2 points during the period I was smoking and eating mj. I aint no dummy either. My IQ was 2 points lower than einstein.

I truely wish I had the means to hire a city of lawers and go after the gov. and pharma. for making so many people take less than adequate "chemicals" to try and cure ailments. The natural ways exist, but the FDA puts their big fat handcuffs into the way of anyone trying to help. The gov in my opinion is a huge mob to rob money from the citizens, and line theirs and the pockets of large companies. "If you don't do what we want we're gonna jail ya." GAAAAHHHHHH

Put that in your pipe and smoke it. LOL
If you've made it this far then I've finally quit rambling.

Hey everyone, great points made by all. I am a medical Marijuana user myself so am very interested in this. Here is a link to NORML's truth report, please take time to read it if you can and join NORML if possible. Truth Report 2005 - NORML
Also Wantfreeenergy, I was wondering what sources you found that show that MMJ can cure cancer? Please site for me as I would love to read this, I know it helps treat it but was unaware of it curing. Thanks in advance.

Here's a youtube video with some info about it curing cancers. YouTube - Cancer Cure - Cannabis & Cannabinoids,by Robert Melamede,PhD Here's a quick statement from the videos description. ("On this video filmed in 2006, Dr. Robert Melamede, Professor of Biology at the University of Colorado, explains how the body's Endo-Cannabinoid system (and plant based Cannabinoids as suppliment) kills cancer cells and inhibits tumor growth.
Refering to 1974 U.S.government-sponsored study when THC was found to slow growth of cancer cells")

And here's two of the links from that videos description area. One of the links I noticed no longer works. Germany: New Study Shows Marijuana May Fight Cancer and http://americanmarijuana.org/Guzman-Cancer.pdf

And then there's the Rick Simpson story. I downloaded the whole video somewhere. Probably on google. But here's a link I saw while on youtube. There's 7 parts it says. YouTube - RUN FROM THE CURE - The Rick Simpson Story (Part 1 of 7) If I recall correctly he cured himself from cancer and then there's like three or four others that speak about the conditions that they cured themselves from. I can't recall how many were cured of cancer in that video, but I'm pretty sure rick did for sure, and I thought his dad too, can't fully remember though.

I also thought I read about it in, "The Emperor Wears No Clothes", but it's been so many years since I read that book. So I am unable to recall anything specific.
If you've made it this far then I've finally quit rambling.

Marijuana No Longer Criminal in Breckenridge

It is a "token" law but isn't just for decriminalizing it for medicinal use.
It is "legal" for recreational use as well... even though it is still illegal
                      according to the state.
