  • Water...is it that important?

I received the following info in an email today...cannot attest to the accuracy, but it caught my attention.

    WATER

#1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.
(Likely applies to half the world population)

#2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak
that it is mistaken for hunger.

#3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as 3%.

#4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs
for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of
    Washington study.

#5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

#6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of
water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain
for up to 80% of sufferers.

#7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term
memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on
the computer screen or on a printed page.

#8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of
colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast
cancer by 79%., and one is 50% less likely to develop
bladder cancer. Are you drinking the amount of water
    you should drink every day?

I'm a water addict... I usually drink more than two litres a day, three if it's hot. I worry sometimes about over-drinking, but surely if my body is craving it, then it means it can take that much...?

I've always been a chronic under drinker. I hardly ever get thirsty, so I have to remind myself to drink more water. Some days, I realize I forgot and only had a couple of cups or less. Even when I rode a bicycle every day I would go forever without drinking anything. It's just been over the past few months that I've had more success reminding myself to drink more. Can't say it's doing much to help the joint pains and aches, though. They seem to be increasing in frequency. Hopefully it's part of the healing process....

Very interesting. I drink around 2-3 liters a day as well and really only when I am thirsty. My fiance sometimes does not drink any water all day and it scares me. If I didn't I think I would pass out!

Sometimes I get bored with regular water so I keep 2 liter bottles of sparkling water at my office. If you like sparkling water it can make it easier to get enough water down during the day if you are trying to increase your intake. It is also yummy with some emergen-C in it.
