hello i have been trying to make the simple schoolgirl and cant figure out what i am doing wrong when i make my coil,i start with both wires on the bottom and continue clockwise 600 turns ending on the top wires facing out to the right. When i put power to it instead of repelling a north facing magnet it sucks the magnet out of my fingers.if i switch the power wires around so positive it connected to my starting wires it repells the magnet what am i doing wrong Help !!!!

    electro-magnet

Any coil of insulated wire that has power supplied to it puts out a magnetic field.Search electro-magnet.
What did you think it would do?

        Hi all,

Looking from the top of the coil, starting from the top, winding clockwise:

Connect positive to start wires then the north is botton.

Connect positive to end wires then the north is top.

        Hope this help
