Actually, what I calculated was that your method of lighting the compact fluorescent bulbs was up to 93% MORE efficient than the standard method!!! When you can light a 42 watt CFL to near full brightness on 3.5 watts, you are getting the same light with a 93% energy savings. That is what I saw and calculated in the tests.
Honestly, I have no idea what the actual efficiency is, but the savings over standard methods is HUGE! The energy savings seemed to vary with different CFLs, but when the supply and the bulb matched well, the light output for the energy input was FANTASTIC!
